There is nothing more beautiful than marrying ‘The One’. The feeling of finally spending the rest of your life with your lobster (Yes, Friends fan) beats everything. And before the D-day, there is a roller coaster of emotions that the bride goes through. Yes, there is no denying that they are full of fun, laughter, dance, memories and let’s not forget booze! But let’s face it, Indian weddings are tough!
At the risk of not offending anyone, the pressure on the bride-to-be is similar to when a six is needed with one ball remaining and it’s a World Cup final. So let’s cut the chase and dive in! So presenting 11 things a bride-to-be feels when the wedding is just around the corner!
1. You cannot truly believe that you’re getting married!
Yes, you are the centre of attention and everyone around constantly asks you, ‘How are you feeling?’, ‘What does it feel like?’ but the truth is you don’t know how you feel till you walk down that aisle and look at the person you’re marrying!
2. You are physically present in office but your mind is constantly on the preparations!
”Arre bhaiya! Gulab chahiye, carnations nahi” to ”Acha, Sofa ready hai, Monday delivery de do”. There are 10 thousand things that go on in your mind and you are constantly checking off items on your mental list!
3. At times, all you want to do is, Stop and Breathe!
No, I’m not saying that the bride does everything but there is so much pressure on the bride, maybe by the society, maybe by her own self that at times, we just want to SIT and BREATHE!
4. You suddenly realise there are far more important decisions than deciding a restaurant or which movie to see!
You know it’s time to grow up when you have to choose a life insurance policy, pay EMI for that new car! Suddenly, fighting over different cuisines and movies seems like stuff meant for the kids!
5. The joy of shopping!
C’mon it’s not all that bad… the sheer joy of shopping is one of the most fun aspects of a wedding. Right from that matching hair clip to buying a double bad, every time you shop, it feels special! *you even get discounts when you tell them you’re the bride-to-be*
6. One week left for the wedding, it suddenly hits you how much you will miss your parents.
Hell, I get up in the middle of the night and just walk around the house to just soak it all in. The thrill of starting a new life, home is surreal but leaving the one you grew up in, is certainly bittersweet.

7. You realise that from ‘I’ it turns to ‘We’.
It’s no longer my house, it’s our house. It’s equal partnership in the truest sense. Even if it means, sharing the bathroom with a boy, you’re ready to do it without batting an eyelid.
8. You do things for love you otherwise wouldn’t even think of!
Don’t believe me! Well, it’s true, why would you otherwise go the Sangeet dance practice on the first day of your period! Or patiently wait for 3 hours while the better half makes up his mind about which pocket square he wants to buy!
9. The happy feeling when you know you have a friend for a lifetime.
The feeling that you have someone who is just yours, the one who will be with you no matter what, the one who makes you stronger and the one who understands you even when you don’t understand yourself is beyond words. Words do fall short. (Also totally smiling ear to ear while writing this)
10. You feel like a pressure cooker!
Always on the edge, you’re ready to burst on the tiniest of things. “I had asked for antique gold embroidery and not gold.” You’re constantly running and making decisions and even a slight bump in the road can turn you into a bridezilla!
11. The best feeling ever, you’re the bride!
No matter what happens, no matter how many things go wrong and most likely everything won’t be perfect! You know, you’re going to the happiest, feeling like the most special person on earth and glowing from within! And you should, because you deserve it all!
So from one to-be-bride to thousands out there, take it all in, enjoy each and every moment because this ain’t coming back, sister! And remember, smile because no matter what no one can take it away from you!
