10 Things I Thought I Would Have By The Age Of 25

The grass is always greener on the other side, they say. As kids, all we wanted to do was grow up and live a life of luxury with no working hours.  And now that we’re here, all grown up to the age we craved to be, a voice inside us keeps screaming back every time we make important decisions – Life is nothing that i thought it would be.

And in times like these, you just want to go back to that kid you used to be and tell him that shit gets tough, and that he should just go out, play more, and eat some more mud in the process. Because that is never going to happen again.

Here are the things we all dreamed we would have by the time we were 25.

1. Be successful as shit

As a kid, I daydreamed of being 25, fabulous, rich and with no care in the world.

Reality: I am 25, poor, surrounded by bills, and being fabulous is a 24/7 job.

 

2. Have a beautiful home

You know – drapes, well-decorated living room, lampshades, and the shizz.

Reality: ​Living room = mattress in front of TV. And lampshades? ​What ​are those ​?​

 

3. Savings

LOL.

 

4. A stable relationship

Turns out, 25 is still too young to know what the heart wants.

 

5. A big-ass TV with a PlayStation

Does my second hand archaic TV that shows miniature footballers count? No? Sure?

 

6. Vacations

It’s easy to believe at 18 that in 7 years, you will be able to go for vacations whenever you want.

Reality: no leaves, zero savings, too much work, I’ll just go to sleep and dream of the beach.

 

7. A rack full of books

You’ll soon realize that maintaining a book shelf whilst making it in the big city is hard. Movers and packers aren’t very thrilled about your 50 kg boxes of books.

 

8. Fancy dinners every night

“No more ghiya, bhindi, and beans when I grow up!”

Reality: Ghiya, bhindi and beans are the cheapest veggies available and are good for your diet, unlike pizza.

 

9. The freedom to do whatever you want

You do have it, but it comes with a big asterisk of terms and conditions on top.

 

10. A group of friends to match the F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Sure, you have a few close friends but let’s face it: maintaining a lifelong friendship with 5 people is hard. But the friends you have mean the world to you and you can call them anytime of the day or night!
