Yogeshwar Dutt’s 2012 Olympics Bronze Medal Will Be Upgraded To Silver And Here’s The Reason

The London Olympics, 2012. Yogeshwar Dutt loses out against Russian Besik Kudukhov in the 60 kg freestyle men’s wrestling event. Kudukhov went on to win silver, and Dutt won the bronze. A year later, Kudukhov passed away in a car accident in Russia.yogeshwar dutt silver

Before the Rio games started this year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) retested Kudukhov’s dope test sample with better technology, and it was found that he tested positive. As a result of this, his silver will be suspended and Yogeshwar’s bronze will be upgraded to silver.yogeshwar dutt silver

As per a standard practice, all medal winners’ samples are tested before every Olympics games, and are stored for over 10 years so that newer technology can be used. According to an official announcement by an IOC representative,

“The samples of five wrestlers, including Russia’s Besik Kudukhov (60 kg) and Uzbekistan’s Artur Taymazov’s (120 kg), have tested positive for banned substances. Kudukhov failed a dope test in re-tests of samples collected during the London Games. In Taymazov’s case, the re-tests date back to samples collected from the Beijing Games (2008). Kudukhov is a silver medallist and Taymazon a gold-medal winner. They will lose their medals. With Kudukhov testing positive, Yogeshwar Dutt of India will get the silver.”

On hearing this news, Yogeshwar Dutt tweeted out and said that he dedicates his upgraded silver to the country as well.
