‘Indian Women Work 50 Days More Than Men,’ Says A Report From The World Economic Forum

I’m a feminist. I do believe in women empowerment. I am against the wage gap that exists due to a difference in gender. Wage discrimination on the basis of gender a difference in gender has been quite prevalent in the corporate world. Although there exists a will to change, the change doesn’t seem to happen fast enough. The results of this survey might provide some stimulus.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) Gender Gap Report suggests that women in India work on an average 50 days more than men in one year. 

Therefore, the greatest burden of unpaid work seems to be falling on the shoulders of women.

 

This figure is even higher than the global average. Globally women work for 39 days more than men each year. 

 

The report also found that in a day, women work on an average 50 minutes more than men across the globe.

The report estimated that it would take nearly 170 years for the wage gap between the two genders to close.

I cannot believe that even in the progressive society that we live in today, there exist issues related to wage discrimination on the basis of gender.

Hopefully, based on the rapid pace of social change, we do see a much smaller estimate for the gender wage gap to close in a new edition of the WEF report in 2017.
