Indian women are dynamic in every possible sense, and this lady is just yet another example of the electrifying power every woman holds within herself.
Meet 44-Year-Old Jayanthi Sampath, a lady who ran a 42 Km marathon in Hyderabad wearing (wait for it) a Sari.

MY SALUTE TO THE LADY 🙏 pic.twitter.com/N8wOr9lNBm— Pv Arun (@PvArunTnf) August 21, 2017
Jayanthi Sampath ran the marathon along with 20,000 others. But unlike them, she decided to ditch the track pants and shoes for this Sari clad look, pairing it up with a bindi and simple sandals.
So, why did Jayanthi opt for this unique dress code? Well, here is the thoughtful reason that she revealed to the Deccan Chronicle:
“I want to promote handloom and encourage women. This is a statement of my support. I am a cyclist and ride very often, and notice a lot of plastic pollution happening around us. I am keen to curb that and want to use this platform to oppose it. For that, maybe I should run in a sari made of plastic wrappers people throw,”
She also revealed more on her decision to run in a simple pair sandals in the same interview. She said,
“I was keen to run barefoot as it would help run in a better form. But the stones were hurting me and I decided to get minimalistic sandals to help me there.”
But here comes the happy news of all! There is a possibility that this runner lady may also win a title of ‘the fastest marathon run in a sari’. Yes! Jayanthi has applied for the title and is now awaiting the result from the Guinness Book of World Records. This is what she revealed about it.
But Jayanthi wasn’t the only one who grabbed the eyeballs. This lad named Uday Bhaskar Dandamudi, who accompanied Jayanthi by completing the marathon wearing a dhoti won equal accolades.
The 27-year-old young lad accompanied Jayanthi to support her cause. He has known her because of their mutual interest in cycling.
Sure the sari strong lady is someone to take a lot of motivation from. Teaching us a simple lesson: Nothing is difficult or impossible if we have all our heart and soul dedicated to it!
Also, not to forget how the Indian handloom industry also comes out as a matter of concern. We as Indians, need to promote this small-scale industry and our own small town artists. They may not have the name and fame, but their talent is sky-high!
