“The Functions Had To Be Moved.” Virushka’s Planner Reveals The Moment That Caused Panic!

I know we’re not supposed to compare love stories and the beautiful marriages that culminate out of it but the year 2017 belongs to Anushka, Virat and the dreamy #VirushkaWedding! And I’m not even sorry.

I mean, and I know I have said this earlier, BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE WAY VIRAT LOOKS AT ANUSHKA?

The royal portrait. Made this image of these two while standing in a narrow hallway. Lit them with an Icelight held by @noeldavidraj. While my favorite from this series is a different image, @anushkasharma seems to really like this particular version. So here it is. 😁 It's so strange to make a portrait of someone who's been photographed so many times! When I first met these two, Anushka said "All I want is my wedding moments to be captured and I don't want anything filmy!". This was music to my ears but I also really wanted to make a couple of timeless posed portraits and we negotiated a window of 3-5mins per event to make a portrait. This was one of them! 😍 #portraitsbyjr #rsa_portraits #sonyalpha #portraitproject #portraitinspiration #portraitpage #moodygrams #fatalframes #discoverportrait #agameoftones #artofvisuals #humanedge #virushka #viratanushka #weddedwonderland #wedphotoinspiration #instalove #instawedding #love #bride #indianbride #bigfatindianwedding

Or the way he didn’t let go of her hand throughout the wedding?

Believe me when I say this; while it was Virat and Anushka who took the plunge and committed love to each other for life, the entire world felt the love resonating and beating in the heart. I know I did!

But apart from their unconditional love for each other, their marriage exemplified the term ‘dreamy’. From decor to attires, from settings to locales, every detail (cue the thoughtful reception invite) was and is awe-worthy. And why won’t it? A lot of planning and secret-keeping went into the making of the romantic Tuscan wedding. In fact, come hear it from the one who planned it!

In an exclusive interview with BBC, award-winning wedding designer Devika Narain who orchestrated the ceremony, spilled the beans about the shaadi of the season and be prepared to be surprised. Speaking about Anushka, she said,

“Anushka is a typical bride and I did not expect her to be one. She had reference photos and was invested in every decision. All of this was her idea and we just planned it all.”

Elaborating on the functions, Devika revealed that both Anushka and Virat are very spiritual and wanted ‘growth and prosperity’ to be the theme of the wedding.

“The function was like a typical Indian wedding. We had a welcome lunch, we had a sangeet on the first day. The second day was bright, colourful mehendi and that night was supposed to be a bonfire night but it rained. We were all huddled around one giant campfire. There was karaoke and everybody was singing.
Anushka and Virat are extremely spiritual people, I don’t know how many people know this but they wanted everything to function around the idea of growth and prosperity. So the entire venue was like an over grown garden and they are big fans of Rumi and his poetry so an anthology of his poems were given as a take back gift.

In fact, she even recalled the time when met the duo and kept referring Anushka as the bride. If you’re wondering, the actress quipped, ‘what’s wrong with you?’ but she clarified that they had conditioned themselves to not take names, in order to keep the secret guarded!

Neat, right? But what if I told you that amidst all the tip-to-toe planning, there was a mayhem moment that left everyone panicking?

When asked if there was any hurdle during the hush-hush wedding, Devika was quick to share that the weather in Italy played a spoilsport.

“It is winters here (in Italy) and nobody gets married in the winters here. On the morning of the wedding day, we all woke up to a completely white landscape and the dew had frozen.

and by noon it was dripping. The outdoors function had to be moved to an indoor courtyard.”

Phew! Close save, I’d say. But the good thing is the pictures look perfect and we can only imagine how magical and surreal it must have been!
