Virat Gets Candid About His Lack Of Training Discipline Earlier And What Changed Later On

Virat Kohli is arguably one of the finest cricketers in the world today in every format of the game. The Indian skipper has impressed fans, won hearts and remains one of the fittest players in the game. However, his prime condition wasn’t always so.

In an interview recently, Virat Kohli opened up about how his fitness wasn’t always his primary concern. However, after a casual conversation with former coach of India Duncan Fletcher, his perspective changed completely.

“You need a set pattern of your training, the way you eat, how healthy and fit you need to be.”

The Indian skipper does admit that adjusting to his strict regime was extremely difficult in the initial stages.

 

Virat’s training discipline wasn’t always how it is, presently. He talks about how he wasn’t at his best during the IPL 2012.

He opens up about how he really struggled against the bowlers throughout the tournament. He couldn’t wait for it to be over.

 

One day, as he walked out of the shower and looked at himself, he was not pleased with what he saw.

“I was in the gym for an hour-and-a-half every day. Working really hard, off gluten, off wheat, no cold drinks, no desserts, nothing. It was tough.”

 

His regime was quite a struggle. There were times when his hunger almost got the better of him, but he powered through it all.

However, Virat powered through those cravings and soon enough, began to see some impressive results.

 

In 2015, he changed his training once again and started doing weights, snatches and deadlifts. Here’s what the Indian skipper looks like today:

Virat Kohli’s story is further testament to the fact that through the right kind of training, perseverance and a strict dietary regime, an impressive physique can be achieved by one and all.
