An Angry Virat Blasts At A Journo Who Questioned His ‘Consistency’ After Series Defeat To SA

Virat Kohli is easily the most loved cricketer in the cricket-obsessed country that is India. A heartthrob, If I may. Be it the fact that he is a run-machine hitting boundaries/sixers when on the field or the way he represents his country when off it, the Indian Skipper just knows how to swing it.

But it’s not always a smooth sail. It’s not easy to be under pressure to perform/face questions tirelessly/stomach the judgements and not crack! And with a player as passionate as Kohli, it is a fool’s errand to rub him the wrong way.

Wondering why am I saying all this? Well, you’ll know in a bit.

It so happened that India faced a 135-run defeat against South Africa in the second Test at Centurion, in Virat’s first reverse as full-time skipper.

Needless to say, the injury is still fresh and a deep one considering the way Virat expressed himself at a press conference post the clash.

If you haven’t heard already, Virat Kohli blasted at a South African Journalist who questioned his and the team’s consistency and the selection process.

Reporter: In all the Tests that you have been captain you have changed your line up in almost each Test. How would you basically say that you guys will continue changing your team and expect a different result?

But Virat who was listening closely lashed out with a counter-question.

“21 wins, two losses, how many draws?” he added.

Talking about the selection process or the ‘best XI’, Virat said,

“What is the best 11? If we had won this, was this the best 11? We don’t decide the 11 according to results. You are telling me that you could have played the best 11. You tell me the best 11 and we will play that.”

Not just that, he also took a dig asking about the winning patterns of SA in India.

However, before concluding the captain calmed his nerves and confirmed that the team always eyes the best, irrespective of the result.

“wherever we are try to do our best. I’m here to answer your questions not to fight with you.”

Now, wasn’t that a heated exchange? Now, I’m no trade expert but as long as we get to see some of that aggression on the pitch, we shall be fine.
