Vijay Goel has certainly had an absolutely stellar record of misquotes and errors as the Sports Minister of India. During the Rio Olympics, he became quite the Twitter sensation for a series of entertaining screwups. Most recently, Mr Goel ensured that his record of screwups remained untarnished at the Kabbadi World Cup.
Team India won the Kabbadi World Cup for the third time in a row after defeating Iran. When the trophy was being presented to the team, Mr. Goel felt it appropriate to stand right in front of the winners and strike a pose!
Terrible idea, Mr. Sports Minister!
Indian Twitter did not take kindly to this and began an onslaught of tweets trolling Mr. Goel.Â
1. Seriously, why would you just stand there?
@VijayGoelBJP That’s how you steal someone else’s thunder. Sad how someone had 2 tell you 2 step away at the end. You couldn’t do it urself pic.twitter.com/Z5GU4PYOMa

2. Let the winners enjoy the limelight. They deserve it.
Shameless politicians.
Hankering for cheap publicity, trying to steal attention from players.
Get out of the way. No one wants to see you. pic.twitter.com/A5E9VHo92M

3. Someone’s been taking lessons in sarcasm. 😉
@IndianInterest "Mera naam Vijay (Goel) hai, main India ko jitaane k liye kahin bhi ghus sakta hoon"

4. Things are starting to escalate…
@narendramodi please take a call on Vijay goel. From Olympics to kabaddi he is a serial offender https://t.co/tDCdZNfVzJ

5. … very quickly!
Dear @narendramodi there is a good reason to sack Vijay Goel now. The man is such a disgrace, please see the picture below! https://t.co/r8e9iHJLaC
— what are you then?? (@Rabid_Troll) October 22, 2016
6. Okay, maybe that’s taking it a bit too far.
@VijayGoelBJP is the worst minister in the cabinet. A living example of why AAP swept Delhi. https://t.co/TPReUuurye

Vijay Goel even tried offering justification for his actions. However, he was shut down almost instantaneously!
@VijayGoelBJP You were asked 2 just ‘present’ the trophy. Just look at international events and you’ll know how to ‘present’.
— Nipun Taneja (@taneja_nipun) October 23, 2016
Next time, I recommend all future sports ministers to PRESENT the trophy to the Indian team and get OFF the stage.
Congratulations team India! And yes, there WILL be a next time!
