Varun Defends Badri’s ‘Molestation Scene’ Calling It FUNNY After Fans Call It Offensive

Varun Dhawan

Varun Dhawan – Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania‘ has received a mixed response from critics and the audiences. More than being a fun entertainer, it was in news a lot over a particular scene from the movie which attracted a lot of flak from all, especially the homosexual community. The scene in question is the one where Alia and her girl-gang were laughing at Varun’s character after he was molested.

The makers and the cast chose to not comment on it earlier. Breaking his silence, Varun told Mumbai Mirror that the scene was supposed to be funny.

“It was supposed to be a funny scene and meant to portray how Badri’s male ego is shattered. In ‘3 Idiots’, there’s a scene where a character confuses a Hindi word for ‘balatkar’ (rape). People should have been offended by that as well. We didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s sentiments and if we did so unknowingly, we apologise.”

He also added that people have the right to opinion,

“Out of 10, if two don’t like something, that doesn’t count as mass opinion. People who felt that way are entitled to their opinion, it’s totally fine with me.”

Those who have seen the film, have said that the makers have trivialised molestation, stalking and kidnapping. But there’s a way to treat such things. Isn’t it? The fact that stalking and such sensitive issues are still glorified in Bollywood, it baffles me. And, men’s molestation is made fun of? It is such trivial humour that can lead to conditioning that all of it is ok, when it is NOT.
