The point about social media incidents was raised during a review meeting of Inspector Generals and Deputy Inspector Generals held by Director General of Police.

The members of the group are, Additional Director General (law and order), Additional Director General (technical services), Additional Director General (traffic), Inspector General Special Task Force, Inspector General Anti-Terrorist Squad and Inspector General Crime.

IG (law and order) A Satish Ganesh said, “The core team will prepare a concept paper as to how social media has opened a new dimension and how can one check the problems arising out of it.”

The primary focus will be to identify the places where misuse of social media had led to disharmony. The secondary focus will be capacity building, which would include training of manpower.
