Plane’s Engine Cover Blows Off Mid-Air, Freaked Out Passengers Share Videos

The debate about technology being a boon or a bane to mankind is a never-ending one. But mostly, it really is a boon, with aeroplanes making it easier to travel the world. However, once in a blue moon, in a rare case, the aviation technology proves to be risky.

Just yesterday, a woman pilot saved two planes from crashing in the nick of time. I can’t even imagine what would have happened if the passenger planes had crashed.

Another terrifying incident happened in which a United Airlines flight from San Francisco en route Honolulu reported a technical error. Passengers could see the debris falling off of the plane’s engine. The flight, thankfully, made an emergency landing and no one was hurt.

According to The New York Times, the cover of the engine blew off and passengers heard a loud noise before feeling the plane shake violently, high over the Pacific Ocean. The cause of the malfunction is undetected yet.

Haley Ebert, one of the passengers onboard the plane, said,

“Everyone on our side flung open their windows just to see what it was. The casing to the engine had sort of flown off. There were pieces flying into the ocean, nuts and bolts flying out a little bit. A bolt hit the wing, and it just made this huge bam.”

A few passengers were able to see the damaged engine and its debris falling off. They captured it on camera and shared it on social media.

1. It surely looks scary.

2. The plane was about to land in 36 minutes, but it made an emergency landing.

3. It looks like the plane was falling apart mid-air.

There is no doubt that many lives would have been lost if the pilot had failed to make the emergency landing. Although no one got hurt, the escape was narrow and the Airline should launch an immediate inquiry into the malfunction.
