For a woman, every cab ride she takes alone is scary.
You would think that with the continuous connectivity today’s smartphones have, they might feel safe. No, they do not.
Preetha Banerjee, a journalist shared one such “hell ride” by live-tweeting her experience from the start.
.@Uber_India Your driver Kunwar driving Maruti Swift Dzire DL1Z7123 just threatened to throw me out of the car (1/3)

@PreethaBanerjee That is unacceptable! Please share details via https://t.co/N1swcrgDIv and DM your email ID, we’ll be in touch.

Why did the driver become hostile all of a sudden?
.@Uber_India my only fault was that I asked to switch the AC to a stronger mode because it was not cooling at all.
— Preetha Banerjee (@PreethaBanerjee) September 8, 2016
.@Uber_India his response: This is my car & I will decide how cold it gets in here. When asked to talk properly he said: You have no manners

.@Uber_India I am a girl travelling alone and he clearly has a distemper and I am feeling scared. Anyway to ensure I reach home safely?
— Preetha Banerjee (@PreethaBanerjee) September 8, 2016
.@Uber_India thanks. Also, I’m Uber pooling and he cancelled all other pool alerts coming to his phone, making it more unsafe!
— Preetha Banerjee (@PreethaBanerjee) September 8, 2016
The driver also threatened her life by driving rashly and even crashing into a bus.
.@Uber_India Your driver is not in his best moods for sure and he is also rash-driving. Hope I reach home in one piece.
— Preetha Banerjee (@PreethaBanerjee) September 8, 2016
.@Uber_India That’s why can’t call emergency because I’m sure if he hears me complaining he will take out a knife & stab me. I want to live.
— Preetha Banerjee (@PreethaBanerjee) September 8, 2016
.@Uber_India he almost crashed into a bus! Will this hell-ride ever end? He didn’t even use navigation & hence I’ll be dropped off a km away
— Preetha Banerjee (@PreethaBanerjee) September 8, 2016
@PreethaBanerjee We’d recommend you to end this ride and request another one. We are concerned about you and your driver’s safety here.
— Uber India (@Uber_India) September 8, 2016
.@Uber_India The driver tried to take advantage of the fact that even if I get off because he’s insulting me, the fare will be charged.
— Preetha Banerjee (@PreethaBanerjee) September 8, 2016
Uber was with her all the way.
@PreethaBanerjee Not to worry, Preetha. Now that we have the details, we’ll ensure that this is addressed the way it should be.
— Uber India (@Uber_India) September 8, 2016
But even then the girl did not feel safe because the cab driver did not leave even after he dropped her
.@Uber_India Just got off. A km away from my house on purpose. I see he has not left yet. I smell vengeance. Still scared.
— Preetha Banerjee (@PreethaBanerjee) September 8, 2016
@PreethaBanerjee We can absolutely understand your concern here and we’ll ensure that this is taken care of, Preetha. So sorry about this!

Although Uber’s response is admirable and commendable, it does not change the fact that the woman went through hell for the whole duration of the ride.
Imagine the horror of a woman who does not have an Internet connection.
