9 Scary Torture Techniques You Won’t Believe Are Still Used Today by Police And The Military

If you look at history, torture has been established as the most efficient technique to extract information and spread terror among a group of people.

Until very recently, almost every country liberally used it for its own profits. But when media became connected and even common people came to know about these horrible practices, governments had no option but to discontinue them.

But you will be surprised that it is still a commonly prevalent technique still used widely over the world.

1. Isolation chamber and heavy sedation with no mental stimulation

We do not realize but keeping a person isolated is one of the most brutal practices of torture, even if they are kept well fed. Add to this that they will not get any type of mental stimulation – like no television, no newspaper, no internet, no books, no paper to write.

Most mental asylums use this technique to shrug off their responsibility to handle difficult patients. The victims are kept alone to do nothing, and if you add sedation, they are basically kept as vegetables.

Vegetables that go insane after some time.

2. Waterboarding where water is poured on breathing passages to simulate the feeling of drowning

This is USA’s favorite torture method. In this torture a person’s face is covered with a towel and water is slowly poured over the face so that it simulated drowning.

It causes intense pain and even brain damage. Indian Police has also been recorded to use it on difficult criminals during questioning.

And the USA likes it so much that most Republican presidential nominees promised to keep it as a legal way to question prisoners, and they find immense support from almost half the country, the evidence being Donald Trump being ahead in polls even though he said that he will keep waterboarding as a torture technique.

3. Torture and physical assault are used to train soldiers to resist torture

Most of the torture techniques have originated from the research militaries have done to protect their soldiers from torture itself.

SERE training given to elite soldiers was designed so that soldiers would not give away sensitive information to enemies after capture.

Tortures like hooding, sleep deprivation, time disorientation, prolonged nakedness, sexual humiliation and deprivation of warmth, water and food are used to train soldiers.

4. Electric shocks are given to nipples and groin

This torture technique is as common as they come. It is liberally used by police forces around the world. Intelligence agencies also use it to extract intelligence from prisoners.

And if you thought that electric shock is torture, many police agencies in the world liberally use tasers as a form of “non-lethal weapons” to bring down a suspect.

The injuries include burns on the skin, heart failure and breathing problems.

5. Prisoners are denied sleep for days to psychologically break them

Sleep is as important to our health as food and water. You deprive a person of sleep and that person will go insane.

Sleep deprivation is one of the most efficient ways to torture a person. Physical pain, uncomfortable and cramped living spaces are used to keep a prisoner from sleeping. Prisoners crack very readily after 4-5 days of such a torture.

6. Gladiator-like fight clubs are organized in prisons

What do you do when you have a prison full of aggressive murderers who do not follow any prison rules? How do you handle them?

Simple – make them fight each other. Prisons where there are a lot of hardened criminals, the jail authorities have gone on to organize MMA and gladiator-like fights among criminals.

This has led to fatal injuries and dead inmates too. It is torture in itself because the prisoners tend to their injuries themselves and have to live with them till the end of their term.

7. White noise torture used in interrogations

Have you ever been irritated by loud noise? There is a reason behind that. Noise is irritating because our brain cannot process it. And if it becomes loud, it is as good as pain.

Audio systems playing white/pure noise at high volumes can break even the toughest of prisoners psychologically. Not to mention this torture can also leave their hearing damaged and even impaired.

8. Bad food is given purposely to prisoners and asylum inmates as a form of torture

Remember the bad food you got in hostels? Bad food, cooked badly on purpose as a form of torture also works.

In a US prison, inmates actually reformed their behavior and prayed to the jail authorities that they will be on good behavior. Why?

Because they get wounded and hurt seriously, they remain incapable to show aggression hereafter.

9. Psychotic drugs like LSD are given then they are interrogated

Drugs are not fun. You overdose – you die. You do not get the drugs – you go through horrible withdrawal.

There was a dedicated state-sponsored research program run by the CIA in the 1960s called Project MKUltra.

The research subjects were given psychedelic drugs and asked questions. People were left damaged mentally because the properties of LSD were not completely known at the time.

Even today, interrogators pump non-cooperative prisoners with heroin and LSD and let them loose. When they run out of money for the drugs, they come back to the police for drugs and give the information they want.

Be glad that you are not the tortured!
