Yes, we are as happy-excited-sad-surprised-overwhelmed-jealous as you are with all the hoopla about Virat-Anushka’s wedding. Although the rumours have been flying around since December last year, the gorgeous couple finally tied the knot in a private ceremony in Tuscany, Italy.
Confused much? We were too! So we put together a list of everything you need to know about Virushka wedding. Read on, folks!
1. When was the decision taken?
As cited in a report by Hindustan Times, the families of the couple met in Sri Lanka last year while Virat and Anushka kept the media distracted with photos of the two gardening together. The family priest suggested December 2017, and that was it. Smart move, right? From then on, the couple maintained absolute silence while talking about each other.
2. When did the rumours start?
The rumours of the wedding began last year when the couple went to Dehradun for the New Year celebrations. However, Virat refuted all of them in a tweet and the media was disappointed.
They sparked again December this year when Virat requested to be relieved from his duty as captain of the Indian cricket team for the limited-overs matches against Sri Lanka. Later, Anushka was seen taking a break from her shooting schedules to leave the city with her family and family priest to go to Italy. That almost confirmed the rumours, but the couples were still tight-lipped about it.
3. The wedding destination.
The private affair but grand wedding took place in Borgo Finocchieto, in Tuscany, Italy. A source told Mid-day that the security was pretty tight around the villa since the celebrations started.
“An area of five-kilometre radius around the resort was cordoned off for the celebrations.”
4. The pictures from the wedding will be auctioned for charity.
A social affair with a cause. Damn right! If you’ve noticed, the pictures circulating currently are not many and definitely not descriptive of the whole event. Mid-day reported that according to sources, the rights for the pictures of the ceremony and the pre-wedding ceremony have been sold to a leading American fashion magazine, the name of which has been kept a secret as per their contract. The money raised by selling these pictures will be forwarded to charity.
5. Wedding Attire by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee
The beautiful bridal attire that Anushka donned, or the dapper Sherwani worn by Virat, both the looks were designed and styled by none other than, Sabyasachi Mukherjee. It took 67 ‘karigars‘ working for 32 days to complete Anushka’s ensemble.
In fact, all the dresses for their Ring Ceremony, Mehendi, Haldi and Sangeet functions were also designed by him.
6. But what about food, you ask?
Turns out, that Chef Ritu Dalmia was put in charge of the catering department. She served a delicious custom designed menu at the wedding. The dishes were a mix of Indian and Italian cuisine, and well, we can only imagine how yummy that must have been.
7. The wedding reception is hosted by Nanke and Dadke.
If you’ve seen the wedding reception invite for the newly married couple, you’ll see “Compliments from Nanke & Dadke”. Well, they’re the names of Virat’s pet dogs and he adores them to death. Such an “awww” worthy information, knowing how much the couple loves pets.

The newly wedded couple will host a grand reception on 21st December, in New Delhi, followed by another reception on 26th December, in Mumbai. After that, they will travel to South Africa for Virat’s preparation for the series and New Year celebrations, before moving into their new home in Worli, Mumbai.
