With cricketing giants from all over the world coming to play alongside Indian stars and every match a party, IPL was just the thing India needed for its primetime entertainment.

2. Bollywood stars cheering for cricketers

Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty, Juhi Chawla and countless others… the IPL ensured that Bollywood celebrities flock into the stadiums to cheer their teams and players. As for the fans, seeing their favourite film and sports stars at the same place was a dream come true!

3. Balaji bags first-ever hat-trick of the IPL

Playing for ‘Chennai Super Kings’ in the first edition of the IPL, Lakshmipathy Balaji took the first hat-trick of the competition while bowling the last over of the innings against ‘Kings XI Punjab’. Taking the wickets of Irfan Pathan, Piyush Chawla and VRV Singh, the hat-trick ensured an 18 run victory for the home side and a man-of-the-match award for the pacer.

4. Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes in an over

The day Andrew Flintoff will remember his entire life. After a heated debate with the English all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh got all charged up and smashed six sixes off Stuart Broad’s over. Till date, he is the only batsman to do so in an international T20 game!

Probably not the best display of sportsmanship, Harbhajan Singh became the angry young man on the field and took charge against Sreesanth after a ‘Mumbai Indians – Kings XI Punjab’ match. The incident left the world shocked and Bhajji gave a new meaning to ‘thrashing the bowler’.

8. Albie Morkel’s gigantic 124m six!

Playing for Chennai Super Kings, Albie Morkel got the better of Deccan Chargers’ Pragyan Ojha. Showing a display of power and precision, Morkel made the ball disappear by hitting it out of the park for a gigantic 124m long six.

9. Rajasthan Royals’ IPL season 1 victory

Stunning everyone, the underdogs of the tournament, ‘Rajasthan Royals’ took the trophy home of the very first season of the IPL. Playing under the captainship of Shane Warne, the Jaipur franchise displayed a brilliant combination of batting, bowling and fielding to win the title.
