Swara Slammed A Journo For Victim Shaming 17 YO Zaira Wasim And Twitter Was Right Behind Her

Rape, molestation and sexual violence against women have somehow become the done deal of the day. We hear stories on these issues plastered across newspapers in bold, sensational headlines almost every day. And what’s worse than molestation you ask me— victim shaming.

‘Dangal’ star, 17-year-old, Zaira Wasim shared a harrowing experience of being allegedly molested on a flight from Delhi to Mumbai by a middle-aged man. She shared the incident on her Instagram story and support poured in from everywhere.

Sympathetic to Zaira’s cause, actor Swara Bhasker also shared her remorse on the incident. She tweeted about the shameful incident apologising for adults who let her down.

She encouraged Zaira to not feel overwhelmed and keep up the brave fight.

A journalist, Jagrati Shukla shamed Zaira asking why didn’t she complain to the flight authorities and called the entire incident nothing but a “cheap publicity stunt”. However, replying to her tweet, Swara defended Zaira and shut down the lady completely.

But Jagrati took it a notch further and connected Zaira’s horrific incident to something completely off the tangent. She spoke about how we want juveniles to be tried as adults but even though Zaira is 17+ we are calling her a “kid”.

She even managed to connect Zaira’s earlier controversial statement on not wanting to stand up for the National Anthem to this trauma.

Slamming her shut, and making some very valuable points, Swara tweeted saying that this “molestation defender” is delegitimising a child’s trauma by calling her “anti-national”.

It was also Human Right’s Day yesterday. And talking about the incident again, Swara tweeted calling the journalist out on her bizarre and insensitive statement.

Twitter rose up in support of Zaira and shammed the journalist for her narrow mindset.

1 . Mallika Dua got straight to the point.

2. Yes, the hypocrisy in our culture is truly mind-boggling.

3. Yes, it is all about the mindset.

4. Can we finally hold hands and make upwards mobility together?

5. It all comes from the thinking of the person.

6. Yes, some introspection is surely needed.

7. That clears all the Airline doubts.

8. It is truly astounding.

I am appalled that media personnel, who have the power to shape the minds in the country, still lives with this archaic mindset. A child has been allegedly molested and it takes a sick human being to connect that to “anti-nationalism”. We salute Swara for taking a stand on the issue!
