Sushma Swaraj, our Minister of External Affairs, has been known to deliver some brilliant responses both in public forums and on social media. Â Her responses have been quick-witted, direct and on point (very much uncharacteristic of conventional Indian politicians).
Sushma Swaraj just delivered a brilliant speech at the United Nations General Assembly, and did not mince words even when speaking on (ahem) diplomatically sensitive topics.
1. She started off by acknowledging that the fight against terror is far from over.
2. And also impressed upon the fact that it’s the biggest threat to human rights today.
3. She reminded the assembly that such threats transcend international borders.
4. She was unafraid to ask the pertinent question.
5. She urged the assembly to identify sponsors of terrorism and hold them accountable.Â
6. The Pakistan PM accused India of human rights violations and Ms Swaraj’s response was elegant yet decisive.Â
7. She reminded the United Nations of India’s repeated attempts to resolve issues in an amicable manner.
8. And made a strong recommendation in this respect.Â
9. Finally, when commenting on the Kashmir issue, she did not hold back.
Sushma Swaraj’s speech was appreciated the world over, and even received a commendation from PM Modi on twitter.
Congrats to EAM @SushmaSwaraj for a firm, effective & fine articulation of a wide range of global issues at #UNGA. https://t.co/9ZgwAbfPDr
