There have been countless cases where Indians living abroad have sought help from the External Affairs Minister (MEA) via Twitter. In some cases, it has even been Indians who wish to go abroad but have issues with their passports. Sushma Swaraj has stepped forward and delivered every time.

And this time too, she’s playing saviour again to a Telangana woman stranded in Pakistan.

Mohd. Akbar, father of a woman named Mohammadi Begum appealed through a video to Sushma Swaraj to help his daughter return to India from Pakistan, where her husband and in-laws have been torturing her.

You can watch the video here.

A resident of Yakutpura, Mohammadi Begum married Mohd. Younus over a telephonic call in 1996, believing him to be a native of Oman. In 2012, he told her that they would be visiting his hometown for some time.

Younus then brought his wife and their four children to Sialkot in Pakistan, and confessed to Mohammadi Begum that he had lied about being from Oman and was actually from Pakistan.

For the last couple of months, Mohammadi Begum has been imprisoned against her will by her husband and in-laws and, according to her parents, is being tortured mercilessly.

Her parents wrote several letters to the MEA, to no avail. But after the video was circulated in social media, the MEA arranged for Mohammadi Begum’s passport to be renewed as well as got the Pakistan government to grant her a visa for 30 days.

However, now with just a few days left for her visa to expire, Mohd. Akbar has once again sought Sushma Swaraj’s help. Younus has agreed to let his wife go if her parents can pay for her ticket. But since they are not financially capable of doing so, they’ve appealed to MEA again.

And what do you know, with yet another tweet that will win your heart, Sushma Swaraj has hit the suffering family’s worries out of the park!

Doesn’t she make you proud with every such tweet of hers? Government officials doing their jobs right can help save so many lives and solve so many problems!

Let’s hope Mohammadi Begum is back with her loved ones, safe and sound, soon! As for Sushma Ma’am, can we borrow some of that gumption of yours?
