Sushil Kumar, the Olympian wrestler, who has made Indians proud, had a cakewalk victory, recently. Returning to the mat after close to three years, a rustic Kumar won gold at Nationals. But not on his merit or by the display of exceptional wrestling skills, but by three walkovers.
On Friday, Sushil was declared the winner in the 74kg category at the National Wrestling Championship in Indore. He won after three wrestlers, including the finalist Praveen Rana, gave him walkovers.

During the quaterfinal and semi-final matches, Kumar’s opponents came to the mat, bowed down, touched his feet and then he was declared winner. According to a Times of India report, the referee lauded for the two wrestlers. He said,
And as predicted another wrestler concedes a walkover to Sushil Kumar. This time it is Sachin Rathi of UP who says he won’t fight. Sushil Kumar in wrestling national final without contesting a QF or SF. “This is our parampara,” the announcer explains to the crowd. pic.twitter.com/hkewGjpH5c

“Dekhiye, yehi humari parampara hai (Look, this is our tradition).”
Wrestling coach Sujeet Maan said that walkovers are not illegal.
Former national women’s freestyle coach Kripa Shankar Bishnoi told TOI,
Sushil tweeted about his wins. The first one was dedicated to India’s daughters.
आप सबके आशीर्वाद से तीन साल बाद रिंग में उतरकर पहली जीत। Dedicated to my win “INDIAS DAUGHTER” 🇮🇳 #JaiHind #BharatMataKiJai pic.twitter.com/2yTePaXIvR

Upon reading this news, Farhan Akhtar added his two cents to it and tweeted,
I hold @WrestlerSushil in high regard for all he has achieved through hard work, discipline, blood and sweat. Sincerely hope he does not accept the gold in this manner. It’s not sportsmanlike. pic.twitter.com/Nv7WuOSJJz

People started supporting Farhan.
If sports role models endorse this kind of behaviour then that sports will be doomed in longer run. Role models need to set examples which are sportsman worthy. Please don’t make sports politics and sportsmen as politicians. Touching feet #wtf.

Another said that Sushil wasn’t a Barbie.
Such disrespect to a Champion like @WrestlerSushil. He’s not a Barbie Doll, he’s a champion wrestler, and his opponents don’t have the respect – for him or themselves – to treat him like one.

And, one said that this isn’t the way to play.
Sports should not be played this way

Some couldn’t stop pitying the field of sports.
Wrestlers getting #Moody Fix a national medal for @WrestlerSushil Hey guys @Olympics don’t handout free medal by walkovers or "Take a Knee". You to need earn them through hard work and sweat! Pity for #SportsIndia https://t.co/J99VTmLux0
