Sundar Pichai’s Wiki Page Explodes As Schools Try To Make Him Alumnus Through Fake Edits

The Indian community rejoiced yesterday when the news of Sundar Pichai becoming the CEO of Google broke out. We Indians love taking credit for whatever we can. Remember Subramanium Swami’s fake Facebook account that said Michael Jackson is actually of Indian origin and his name was Mai Ka Laal Jaikisan? And then the Vishwa Hindu Parishad went ahead to claim that once the whole world was Hindu and the Russians were the Rishis (Saints? I wonder if that’s where the vodka love came from).

So, as soon as Sundar Pichai’s name popped up on the news, his history was dug up and soon his Wikipedia page became a battle scene. You see, while Sundar’s college life is pretty clear (and pretty awesome) as he went to IIT Kharagpur for his Bachelors and Stanford and Wharton for his post graduation education, his school credits were a little hazy.

With as many as 75 users trying to alter his profile on Wikipedia, his page saw several versions yesterday. There were various schools that were listed under his alma mater such as Padma Sheshadri Bala Bhavan School (PSBB), Jawahar Vidyalaya, GRT Mahalakshmi Vidyalaya, Vanavani Matriculation and All Angels School. To top it all, the PSBB school Wiki page even listed him as a reputed alumni.

Here’s a series of changes that the Wikipedia page went through

Before he became the CEO of Google, his school names were mentioned on the page as Jawahar Vidyalaya and Vanavani Matriculation where he indeed studied. After the immense web wars, finally there is no school section under Sundar Pichai’s profile on Wikipedia as of now. I think even Wikipedia grew tired of these web shenanigans.

Quite a run for publicity, wasn’t it?
