If I say ‘desert’ and you do not conjure up images of scorching sun and hot sand dunes for miles and miles, then there’s probably something wrong with you. But be ready to have your perception changed because due to another one of nature’s in explicable phenomena, snow has fallen over the biggest desert of them all—The Sahara desert!
As a result of a freak winter storm, parts of the Sahara desert in the small town of Ain Sefra, Algeria, have received more than a foot thick snow fall!
This is something you just don’t see. 16” of #snow fell in the #SaharaDesert this weekend. This is only the 4th time snow has fallen in the desert in 37 years! pic.twitter.com/Vis6TMveaU

The same winds that brought the brought the cold wave in parts of the United States in December may have caused the snow fall in the world’s largest desert.
While some parts of the Sahara received only a foot of snow, others were covered in a beautiful white blanket of 16-inch snow. Needless to say, it was one spectacular sight!
1. Breathtaking!
2. When Sand Met Snow! Sounds like a Game of Thrones plot, doesn’t it?
3. Those vibrant orange hues will steal your heart!
4. Difficult to say if it’s Sahara desert or the Alps!
5. The swirls made by the snow look like latte art, don’t they?
Awe-inspiring as it might be, such a climatic occurrence is not unheard of. In fact, this is the third time in 40 years that the Sahara, a place where temperature can go up to 40 °C, is receiving snow fall.
In December 2016, the Sahara had received snow fall after 39 years. And now, this has happened again.

But while people wondered at this natural marvel, they also raised concerns.
1. Just keepin’ it real.

Unnatural weather phenomena are becoming more and more frequent in recent years. Come to think of it, they could be Mother Nature’s way of saying ‘Bitch please!” to all the global warming naysayers. But the gravity of the situation cannot be ignored. Rain in winter and snowfall in summer may sound like an amazing thing, but the apocalyptic undertones do seem to mar the wonder of it all.
Still, now that it has happened. We might as well stop and stare at the amazing sight! You can watch the video here.
