Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ might have begun its journey with roars and cries of opposing voices (read Karni Sena and other fringe elements) but what we saw on the silver screen, or rather how we saw it, has only minted big bucks for the makers.

Yes, a certain sect did see the ‘glorification’ of Jauhar along with the aesthetics that SLB is famous for, but again, nothing takes away from the fact that movie did wonders amidst the uproar, especially for Deepika who stunned cinema goers with her poise and gravitas.

Not to mention, she took critics by storm who had earlier gaped and sighed at the news of her garnering more fess than her co-stars (cue: male leads), after she bagged the titular role in the magnum opus.

In fact, it is the same talent that has managed to fetch to a permanent place in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s heart and films. According to Deccan Chronicle, the film-maker hails DP as one of the finest. Hinting at another film, he said,

“There is a lot more to her. Lots! Deepika is one of the finest artistes I’ve worked with. Such thehrao and such grace! She never surrenders to melodrama even when there is ample temptation to do so.

Look at the scene where she gives a speech in front of the women before they commit jauhar. Such control, restraint and so much emotive power without tripping over.”

Not just that. He even went ahead and shared a small story from the sets. The day he gave Deepika a Rs 500 note…

Moving, right!

The director who has now worked thrice with the actress also mentioned how DP will someday leave a legacy behind.

“From some angles, she reminds me of Vyjayanthimalaji. Sometimes she reminds me of Hemaji. And the grace with which she performed the Ghoomar dance reminds me of Waheedaji. I strongly believe Deepika has the potential to join the ranks of our legendary actresses.”

Hey, I’m no movie critics but I can honestly see why Bhansali is a fan of Deepika. Honestly, who isn’t?
