My high school best friend for several years was probably the most toxic person I ever encountered in my life. The worst part was, I kept making excuses for all the cruel things she did to me, or the repercussions that I faced. And I know, it’s not just me. Many of us have had our fair share of toxic people in our lives, who came in various shapes and guises. Here are few signs that would let you know if a person in your life is gradually poisoning your life.
1. They are control freaks in nature
And this nature of theirs isn’t limited to their own life. They would always want to control different aspects of your life.
2. They would put themselves before anything
Put it simply, they’re utterly selfish. Everything has to be about them.
3. Drama is their middle name
They are the drama kings or queens in your life. Watch out for the enfolding saas-bahu serial in your life for signs!
4. They are never really happy for you
A true well-wisher would be ecstatic for your achievements. But toxic people would either be waving your achievements off or denouncing them by comparing with their own.
5. In fact, they are the parameters for everything
According to them of course.
6. They inherently love gossip
They follow that insane rule of gossips bring people closer. But trust me, if they are talking about someone else to you behind their back, chances are they’re doing the same behind your back too.
7. They are highly judgemental people
Everything everyone does would be scrutinised by them. And of course, they’d have an opinion on everything.
8. They take both things and people for granted
Do not expect gratitude from them, because they have a tendency of believing that the world is there to serve them.
9. They don’t mind manipulating people for their benefit
Whether it’s lying to the teacher about a nonexistent health problem or using a lie to make you do something for them, they would do it!
10. And they have absolutely no qualms about playing the victim
11. Often, their needs make them your closest
They are the fair weather birds, who would be joined to your hips if they need a favour from you. Once that is done, you’d not hear from them in a while.
12. And they simply do not respect the idea of boundaries
Whether it’s about asking an unfair favour to prying into someone else’s life, the concept of boundaries only exists in maps for them.
13. Also, they don’t care about what others might have to say
Because for them, only what they have to say is important; so they barely listen to others while keeping all the attention focused on themselves.
