We live in a generation where we take things at face value on social media, but do not believe people in real life. We believe WhatsApp forward messages and we spread the news on social media websites without having complete knowledge about it. And thus, the vicious cycle of fake news, fake photos and rumours begin.
In a country like India, we treat the celebrities with a different kind of royalty. We believe everything that comes out of their mouth in interviews and movies, and we believe everything they post on their social media profiles.
Although this kind of stardom seems appealing, because it gives you the power to shape thoughts and get your voice heard, it also comes with a lot of responsibility. Because anything wrong or controversial that they say can become a potential national conflict.
Recently, actresses Shraddha Kapoor and Kirron Kher posted a photo on their Twitter profiles that was apparently fake. They got busted for it and well, I’m just sitting here dumbfounded.
They freeze to make sure that we are warm. They protect to make sure that we feel safe. Can never thank you Jawaans enough. pic.twitter.com/z1Df4sw0dA

While the message they’re trying to convey about patriotism and saluting the Indian Army for everything they do for us is quite commendable, the picture itself is NOT of the Indian Army. And someone pointed it out to them.
Ma'am, the soldiers in this photo are of Russian Army, not Indian. Our soldiers might be going through tougher conditions though. https://t.co/PosljbfqW6

Good thought. We all agree but this particular photo is of Russian Army.
We are already proud of our soldiers, don't need fake ones to escalate our respect. https://t.co/MWNcgqKMUq— SM Hoax Slayer (@SMHoaxSlayer) December 17, 2017
We agree that being in those conditions and making sure the country gets a good night’s sleep every night is not an easy job. Especially when their lives are at stake.
However, people expressed their disappointment over the irresponsible sharing of fake photos.
1. Reminding her responsibility as a politician.
Ma'am as an MP, aren't you supposed to be more responsible while posting messages on social media? This is the Russian army, as a lot of people have already pointed out.

2. Pointing out the obvious.
Thay are not indian. Russian thay are

3. Everything links back to their political alliance.

4. The photos were posted earlier too.
FAKE: the photograph is not of the Indian Army and the place shown in the photo is not Siachen. The original photos are of Russian army soldiers and was first posted in 2013.https://t.co/AEIKRbFG1r @ShubhamTrinamul @KOLLEO @Jayantasengoptu

5. I’m sure she knows it by now.
Please stop spreading unverified images. Utmost respect to indian soldiers but soldiers in this pic are not indian army.

6. The feeling counts, though.

7. This guy apparently ‘debunked’ it last year as well.
True. Check my timeline. Debunked on 10th Dec 2016. Last year and yesterday too
— SM Hoax Slayer (@SMHoaxSlayer) December 18, 2017
Last year, this picture had done the rounds of our timelines and was declared fake then too, so a little fact checking wouldn’t have hurt. Nonetheless, to err is human.
