The telly world, after Bollywood, is the most sought after space for stars. While most newbies treat it as a gateway to the movies, television has a niche and fan-following of its own. A huge one at that! If you’re one amongst the many I’m talking about, you must have heard about the show ‘Bhabiji Ghar Pe Hain’ and it’s equally famous ‘Angoori Bhabhi.’
If you have, chances are, you were heartbroken when Shilpa Shinde of the same fame was kicked out/ quit (make your pick), following a pickle with the producers. Well, now after a year, the actress is back in the news and the spat just got uglier!
Shilpa Shinde has now claimed and filed a FIR against Sanjay Kohli, producer of ‘Bhabiji Ghar Pe Hain’ accusing him of sexual harassment. She said,
“In our industry, everything is taken lightly. Guys say so many things and if you react to them, they go like – ‘we are kidding’. Things like – ‘You are looking, hot sexy’ – are common. Sanjay ji used to come on the set and while Benaifer (his wife and co-producer) would take care of all the paperwork, he would be the one who would talk like this to us.
Once Sanjay ji told me that for the promotion of the show, we will have to go out. And that we will have a nice time. Also, in the make-up room, he came close to me and photo lete huye and apna haath rakha mujphe…I could feel that touch was not right.”
Talking about the days, Shilpa also claimed to have divulged details of Sanjay’s misdemeanour to co-star Saumya Tandon, only to be betrayed later.
“I spoke to Saumya also about this, but she was like – ‘Humari industry mein koi rape nai karta Shilpa’. But I told her that I was feeling very uncomfortable. Later I got to know that Saumya told Benaifer because two days later she asked me if I wanted to leave the show. She told me – ‘yeh kya keh rahi ho tum…koi pyaar se baat karta hai, toh tumhe yeh sab lagta hai. Humein do minute lagenge tumhara career spoil karne mein.’
Shilpa also cited the reasons why it took her over a year to out her producer, who had earlier, allegedly tortured her mentally.
“That time, the way they portrayed everything and played games, I could not understand and believe that this could happen. I also told some people (about the sexual harassment charges), but they asked me what proof do I have.
My friends also told me that I should have taken the first move (legally). But I was like – ‘I can’t do this to people who sign my cheque, they can do and say anything about me. The entire unit is with them. I know how they behaved with Kiku Sharda (actor in TV show FIR). They would make him stand and not give him the scene. This is like white collar mafia. I am going to court. I am not going to leave them. Inko andar daal ke rahoongi.”
While it remains for the court to decide, the allegations raised by Shilpa raises a lot of high brows about showbiz and the way it treats women.
