Someone wise once said, ‘Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed. Everything else is public relations.’ And as dismaying as it is, the state of affairs in the fourth pillar of democracy today is anything but ideal. While sensationalism is one of biggest of the industry, it is hardly the worst.
Talking of problems, earlier, we told how you how Republic TV allegedly harassed journalist Shweta Kothari, forcing her to quit just because Shashi Tharoor follows her on Twitter!
In case you are uninitiated, Arnab Goswami and Shashi Tharoor don’t see eye to eye, especially after the former threw the latter an open challenge, dragging him through a charade of mudslinging.
Now, while Shweta’s Facebook post echoed in the minds of a lot of people, her Twitter timeline is filled with support from fellow-journalists and sane-minded who deem the incident another stain in the integrity of the press and professionalism.
Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself. As soon she shared her ordeal,

Not just the general masses, her voice also reached Shashi Tharoor and his reply, in my humble opinion, sets the right example.
Congratulations on standing up for your own integrity: https://t.co/QaNyocjFT7

While the war of words had already begun, this fresh set of salvo is poised to start another round of fires. Only time will tell when and how.
