Naseeruddin Shah And Family’s Royal Photoshoot Proves That They’re The Shahs Of Theatre!

If you know the theatre scene well, then you’d know how much weight the Shah khandaan name holds. Each Shah – Naseeruddin, Ratna Pathak, Heeba, Imaad and Vivaan – has something unique to bring to the stage and as a unit they are explosive. Case in point is their play, ‘Riding Madly Off In All Directions’.

In a Hindustan Times interview, the Shahs not only had a royal photo shoot but talked about each other’s talent and uniqueness.

1. Naseeruddin and Ratna Pathak’s love story was not all hearts and flowers. But for Naseerji, it was love at first sight.

 

In his memoir he wrote,

 

2. What did future Mrs Shah think of him, then?

“He used to wear these John Lennon dark glasses, which I loved. Also, he was the only one who knew what he was doing as an actor as opposed to the rest of us who were just blundering along.”

 

3. Naseerji feels Imaad and Vivaan are theatre babies and so is his daughter Heeba.

“Imaad and Vivaan are theatre babies. Just like Ratna herself. She grew up watching her mother (Dina Pathak) perform on stage and her kids grew up watching her and me.”

 

4. But what do the kids (Imaad and Vivaan) have to say about their parents?

“Mom is a hard taskmaster.”- Vivaan

 

 

 

5. The veteran actor is really proud how his elder son is not only interested in theatre but also composing his own music.

“I just told him one line and he got all the scores done. When I heard them, they were just what I had wanted.”

 

6. For Heeba and Vivaan, who have already directed their first plays (Parindon Ki Mehfil and Comedy of Horrors, respectively) Daddy Shah is really glad.

“They are nothing great, but I am glad they are going in the right direction.”

 

7. It is no life without theatre for the Shahs, points out Ratnaji.

“Theatre is part of our lives so there is always some preparation, discussion or rehearsal happening every day. I don’t know what we’d talk about if it weren’t for theatre, films and music.” – Ratna

 

 

8. How did the director of the play (Naseerji) think about all five of them working together?

 

The floor is open to each Shah, who has the liberty to bring their own ideas to the table.
