Here Is Why Clothing Line Using Nude Male Models To Counter Sexism Is Problematic

sexism

Sexism in advertising, unfortunately, is not news. And correct me if I’m wrong, it is mostly women who have had to face the brunt of misogyny, irrespective of the product on sale. Be it objectification where women are paraded as commodities or gender stereotypes that restrict women to enter boardrooms, we have seen it all.

But I’d be lying If I said, it is a big, bad world of wolves out there. Yes, nothing takes away from the fact that sexism in advertising is a problem but what if I tell you that it is hardly the worst one?

That’s right. In a bid to counter sexist double standards, a clothing line that goes by the name Sui Studio has come up with a photo shoot that features naked men, lying as props for supposedly powerful women. See the pictures for yourself and decide.

1. They vouch that they’re ‘Not Dressing Men.’

2. It hits you right where it hurts!

3. Some role reversal there!

4. ‘Paradox of power.’

5. Eye-grabbing!

No, my intention doesn’t lie in belittling the fact that women are at the receiving end or that women deserve better re-presentation. But pray do tell, how does one right a wrong by another wrong?

And while I appreciate the shift of power, naked butts, in my humble opinion, is a disservice to every woman right activist/feminist fighting to drop the veil on breasts selling burgers and what not. Let us know what you feel about it in the comments.
