A 16 YO Trapped In A Sex Racket Serving 20 Clients Daily Was Rescued By Her Pregnant Sister

Sex trafficking has claimed the innocence of hundreds of people, who are sold to the prostitution rings at a tender age and remain trapped in its vicious cycle forever. But sometimes fate gives them a second chance to save their lives and escape the darkness.

A girl was rescued by the same dark world of sex trafficking by the presence of mind of her sister who was nine-months pregnant at the time, from Delhi’s biggest red-light area.

The 16-year-old victim hails from West Bengal and was lured away by a man there on pretext of marriage. She eloped with him shortly after and he took her from Diamond Harbour to Kolkata and then to Delhi.

Once she reached Delhi, the man sold her to a pimp who threw her in a dingy room in G.B Road along with two other girls, where she was trapped for 5 months serving 20 clients a day.

India Today reported her harrowing ordeal where she was forced into prostitution from day 1 entertaining men her father’s age and was starved if a “customer” complained about her. She told the police,

“From 11am, customers used to visit the brothels and the first shift ended at 4pm. Then food was served where we were not allowed to demand more. Daal, roti, sabzi was the daily menu. After a few hours of rest, we were supposed to bathe and get ready for the evening shift. From 8PM to 4.30am, I was supposed to entertain the customers.”

However, the teen once managed to call her mother from a customer’s mobile phone and inform them of her whereabouts in the red-light area. The information was shared with the West Bengal police who conducted a raid on the area but could not find the girl.

The sister of the girl, who was nine months pregnant at the time called back on the customer’s number and hung up. When the man called her back, she struck up a conversation with him at the end of which, the man gave her his picture and address, and persuaded her to come to Delhi.

The woman shared the details with West Bengal Police who detained the man at Barakhamba Road police station and conducted consecutive raids. The Delhi Commission for Women issued a summons to all 125 brothel owners to appear before a panel.

Frightened by the consecutive raids of the police and the summons, the brothel sent her back to Diamond Harbour with another customer and Rs 3000 cash. Before leaving the man told her to withdraw all cases and return to GB Road to earn money.

Sudeshna Roy, member of West Bengal’s Protection of Child Rights Commission spoke to India Today saying that the victim was severely traumatised and has cigarette burn marks on her apart from other injuries.

The victim was made to consume a drink laced with sedatives everyday. If she refused it, she was beaten up and starved by the brothel owner. The other two girls with whom she was sharing the room were allegedly injected with drugs.

Sex trafficking is a rampant crime in the nation with hundreds of girls lured away with fake promises of job prospects or marriage and sold off to brothels. These girls only dream of being rescued from the clutches of flesh trade to start a new life.
