We are often encouraged to speak our minds and ask questions to show that we care. However, there are times that we have been asked questions that are not only impolite, but rude and hurtful. It may be intentional or unintentional but it’s important to think twice before asking these questions.

Hands down, this is the most common and I might add, one of most disrespectful questions anyone can ask. People may feel that they are being judged on the basis of their physical appearance and on how much they weigh. Asking this question can be rude, hurtful and can be upsetting for a lot of people.

2. When are you getting married?

Because our entire existence depends on us getting married. People will get married when they want to. Don’t ask this question as it can trigger an argument or bring to light bad memories.

3. What!!! You broke up! Why???

Stop being nosy! If someone wants to discuss their sad love saga, be patient, they will! Till then, this question is strictly off-limits.

4. How much money do you make?

This question can easily put one in a sticky spot. It’s perfectly alright discussing money matters during an interview for a new job or when seeking a raise. But, if you are asking this question to show off and be an asshole about how rich you are, then don’t even bother.

5. How old are you?

It’s okay to ask this question to a child but with adults it is a touchy topic, especially among the womenfolk. In our day and age, where we rely on our physical beauty and fitness, this question can be a rude reminder for those wanting to look and feel younger than their actual age.

6. Not working? What do you do sitting at home everyday?

It’s sad that home-makers in our country are looked down upon and often asked this question as if looking after their home is menial. There is nothing tougher than being a mother.

How does it even matter? Unless you’re doing your thesis on the religions across the world, don’t even dare thinking about asking questions on religion. Beware, it may come off as being a racist.

If I knew the answer to this question, you think I would be single? On a serious note, it gives off the impression that being single is a disease and something is not right with the person. Can we please move on from this question and focus on something more important?

9. Did you lose weight?

You mean I was fat earlier??? It may come across as being concerned but not all the time. It’s a funny world, unhappy with us being fat and even with us being thin.

10. When are you due?

Never ask a lady when is she due, unless and until she has confirmed her pregnancy. Women tend to look pregnant at times and asking them questions like, ‘Are you pregnant?’ or ‘When are you due?’, when they are not, can be hurtful.

11. Are you gay?

A person’s sexuality should be nobody’s business. Doesn’t matter if they are straight or gay. It’s outright rude asking them, ‘If they are gay?’ or worse asking them, ‘If they wish they were straight?’. This is just morally wrong.

12. When do you plan to have kids?

How rude! Never ever ask this question to anyone because this will definitely not go down well. It is awkward and a complete invasion of privacy. It can even cause a few tears if asked to those planning a family and being unsuccessful at it.

Why? You planning to set me up with someone? Steer clear from asking this question especially if you are meeting the person for the first time or after a really long time. It may come off as being aggressive, pushy and also give away the notion of being interested in the person.

14. I forgot your name. What’s it again?

Not everyone is good with names. We accept it. But what is unacceptable is asking them to repeat their names five times within a span of ten minutes. It’s better that you to pretend to know their names or wait for them to leave and then ask a friend or a colleague to repeat their names.

15.  Bonus Point (under the influence of alcohol) How many people have you slept with?

What were they thinking? Oh Wait! They weren’t thinking before asking this question.

So, if you don’t want to suffer from the foot and mouth disease and worse, don’t want to be slapped in public, please stop asking these questions and be kind people. Be kind.
