Rishi Kapoor Admits To Buying The Filmfare Award For ‘Bobby’ For ₹30K In His Autobiography

Rishi Kapoor is one of the most prolific actors in the Indian film industry, having been one of the foremost romantic heroes in Bollywood. The actor recently released his autobiography titled ‘Kullam Khulla’ which contains some shocking revelations about his life.

In his autobiography, Rishi Kapoor admits to buying his debut Filmfare award for Best Actor for his film, ‘Bobby’, for ₹30,000.

“I was just 21 at that time, fiercely competitive. When a person I met promised that he could get me an award if I paid Rs 30000, I agreed. Eventually, I won the award.”

He felt this unethical award purchase was the reason for initial coldness between him and Amitabh Bachchan. Big B probably believed that he was more deserving of the award for his performance in ‘Zanjeer’.

“It was a mistake, and I’m owning it up in the book. But that doesn’t mean after that I bought all my awards.”

We respect Rishi Kapoor for being brave enough to come clean about it. However, this begs the question:

If one could so easily “win” a Filmfare award with a simple cash payment, could that still be happening today?
