12 Reasons Why Listening To Radio Is Still Awesome

Radio won’t survive the onslaught of television and internet, they said. But nobody told radio this. So many years, and many more innovations later, radio is still very much a part of our lives- alive and kicking.

Here are twelve reasons why radio is, and will always be, awesome.

1. A friendly voice that kills loneliness

You get a feeling a friend is talking with you.

 

2. It keeps you alive when boredom is killing you

Keep calm and tune in.

 

3. Awesome music, that caters to people of all tastes

Do you like contemporary hit music, or retro music? Radio has got both, and more.

 

4. Great RJs who make us feel as if everything is fine with the world

They have a way around words which leaves us awestruck. Wish all of us had such wordplay. #JealousMuch

 

And, in times of distress, radio acts as a carrier of messages, through soundwaves

Be it the floods, or blasts, the RJs work non stop, to help as many people as they can.

 

5. The morning and evening drive time is a much happier space, because of radio

Suddenly, your long commute to your workplace doesn’t seem all that arduous. The auto rickshaw guys, and the cabbies too begin their days with radio!

 

6. Interviews which refreshingly aren’t pretentious

The celebrities are much more candid in radio interviews, as the pressure of facing the camera is not there. The result- a candid interview. Its almost like overhearing a conversation between celebrities and RJs.

 

7. The amazing contests and cool goodies to be won

Sure, radio shows won’t make u a millionaire, but they have enough amazing prizes to make you want to participate in contests, which are usually fun.

 

8. Ideas on what to do, and what not to do

Your RJ gives you info on what’s happening in your city, what you should do over the weekend, which movie should you catch and which you should strictly avoid, which restaurant should you try out, relationship advice… You get the drift.

 

9. It gives us information on traffic, and weather

This certainly makes it easier for us to decide which way to go.

 

10. It is a two way medium in every sense of the word

You can call up your favorite RJ at any point in time.

 

11. It is the ‘Theatre of The Mind’- there is no visual, only sound and your imagination

Radio helps create beautiful pictures inside your head.

 

12. The feeling that even if there is no one and nothing around you, radio will always be there

Thank you Marconi for inventing the radio, but more importantly, thank you all our RJs, who have made the most of this medium, and given us so many laughs over the years.
