Police Helps Varanasi Couple In Love Get Married As Locals Had A Problem With Their Affair

We’ve heard so many stories of couples getting moral policed in India. From the cops to neighbours everyone in the country seems to have an opinion on unmarried lovers. There have been instances where they have been harassed and beaten and frankly, I don’t get the taboo around it.

However, what happened with Yugal Bihari Prajapati and Reena Prajapati was nothing short of a miracle. The couple was given unsolicited help from the police to tie the knot.

In a report by Hindustan Times, the 25-year-old Yugal and 23-year-old Reena were spotted by locals. They started shaming the pair and accused them of obscenity and complained to the cops about this.

The couple was out on a date in a village orchard in Badaura village of Varanasi. The police took them to the station and questioned them about their plans with each other.

Yugal and Reena told them that they had been in love for the past two years and planned to get married in March. But the Police decided to get them married that day itself in a nearby temple.

Recounting the incident, Jansa station in-charge, Anil Kumar Singh said,

“They were sitting in the garden when locals informed us. A police team brought them to the station. They told us they wanted to marry, so we arranged their marriage with their parents’ consent.”

The village head persuaded the pair’s parents into the swift wedding. He said that the parents of the bride even gave Rs. 1 as shagun to the groom’s kin.

The police persons themselves made all the arrangements for the ceremony. And Anil Singh said that it was a dowry-free wedding and that the couple left home happily.

The groom works for a private company in Mumbai and had never imagined that his wedding would happen in this fashion. He said,

“I had never imagined I would get married in such a manner. What is interesting is that police made the arrangements for my marriage. The love of my life is with me and I will take her to Mumbai.”

This move has come after the state of UP has been notorious for its “anti-Romeo squad” where men who are seen even talking to the opposite sex are looked at with suspicion.
