Married For 71 Years, Wife Dies 4 Minutes After The Husband In This Heartbreaking Love Story

Love is truly the essence of life. It is something we search for all our lives and for the lucky ones, we find it soon enough. I am always fascinated by the love stories of the older generation. The depth of their love, their unfathomable understanding of each other and their refusal to live without each other!

For a few fortunate ones, they live and die with the love of their life. It is rare but it is true. The pain is too much to bear. And what good is this life if your partner isn’t alive to share it with you?

Vera Russell, 91 and Wilf Russell, 93 were married for 71 long years and they died just four minutes apart from each other.

They had always been together for the past 71 years and only separated when Wilf had to move to a care home two months ago.

Wilf was suffering from Dementia and Vera was heartbroken when he could not recognise her. She used to visit him every day and sit by his bedside. Vera’s last words to her granddaughter, Stephanie Welch, were,

“We’re a right pair, aren’t we?”

Vera was 16 and Wilf, 18 when they got engaged and they have been together for 75 years! Vera was also hospitalised 3 km away from the care home and didn’t know that Wilf had passed away! The granddaughter says,

“I think she was waiting for him to go. She was broken-hearted.”

Wilf and Vera have two sons, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Their granddaughter says that they were family oriented and loved all the family members dearly. She says the secret to their happiness was,

“Vera very much spoke for them as a couple and Wilf went along with whatever she said. Maybe that’s why they lasted so long!”

Now, that is really romantic. They literally lived together and died together. It is hard to find such romances today but hey, such stories give us hope that true love exists and that our miracle would be waiting to happen!
