Ola Charged A Hyderabad Guy With A Bill Of ₹ 9.15 Lakh. Buying A New Car Would Be Cheaper!

Taxi services in India are far from being perfect. The likes of Uber and Ola have a few kinks, and they need to be ironed out for a seamless customer experience. Until then, passengers will continue to experience hassles, like this one faced by Mr. Rathish Sekhar from Hyderabad.

Ola Cabs charged Mr. Sekhar a whopping bill of ₹ 9,15,887 for a round trip of 450 km, which showed in the app as 85,427 km!

On the 24th of August, Sekhar started his trip from Jubilee Hill at 7:57 am towards Nizamabad. He had a two-hour break there, and he returned in the same cab at 5:16 pm. Sekhar said that the estimate in the app showed him ₹ 5,000 for a total of 450 km. But his actual calculation came up to around ₹ 9.15 lakh for over 85,000 km!

Sekhar refused to pay the bill until the matter was resolved and the driver contacted customer support, who later recalculated the bill to ₹ 4,812.

“There were no dots  between the numerals. For example, some times the bill amount is displayed as ‘9158.87’ which would mean Rs 9,158. But even Rs 9,000 would be almost double the estimate.”

Citing slow service, Sekhar said that the process of recalculation took half an hour, and he got the actual invoice by email three days later. The Ola support staff told him that there were errors in their computers, which led to the anomaly in the bill.

Wonder how Mr. Sekhar must have reacted on seeing the amount!
