Nude Yoga Girl sprang up on Instagram about a year ago and she hasn’t stopped. Her account is composed of only black and white portraits of her doing Yoga… completely naked. The 26-year-old is a model, photographer, gymnast, and Yoga enthusiast.
Along with inspirational messages, she shares parts of her story with very strategically lit photographs that help her skirt around Instagram’s strict No Nudity Policy.
Here are some of her best posts.
1.
“I’ve noticed that especially women belittle themselves easily. Maybe we want to please everyone and soften our opinions.. Maybe we are afraid of what other people think about us. Or we think that saying aloud that we are good in some way is selfish love and negative boosting?!”
2.
“I do online classes and read about yoga etc.. but more for inspiration and to learn new things. I really would like to find a good teacher for me of course but at the moment I like to do yoga at home or in a park in the middle of nature. I mostly practice Vinyasa Flow and Yin yoga. And I love to figure out my own sets and just do a yoga flow where I bring different asanas together.”
3.
“I think it’s so easy to get a wrong idea of your own body image in the middle of this society that strives for perfection and gives such a wrong idea of ”ideal beauty”. It doesn’t matter how you look, you can always try and find mistakes and something to criticize in your body. That is very sad.”
4.
“I try… in life , yoga, body related things and work always to focus on myself and what I’m doing rather than on what others are doing. If someone is better than you in some way (and there will always be someone) you can learn from them. That’s not a threat, it’s an opportunity to get better.”
5.
“I do everything but my boyfriend is kind enough to press the button to take the photo. In the Beginning I directed all the time but now he has started to learn angles, distances, settings.. Thanks to him ?”
6.
“Being humble is beautiful but at the same time we have to respect ourself. We have to hold the field and not allow anyone to hurt us in any way. We have to know that we are good enough and we deserve good.”
7.
“I just want to tell you that it really doesn’t matter how you look… The first thing that we have to realize is that we are good enough exactly the way we are. If someone in your life says something else, he/she is very wrong. You are beautiful, unique, important and amazing.”
8.
“I want to engourage people to understand that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. And what we call “faults” in our body are only “faults” because of our mind. There is not perfection or imperfection. Everybody is unique. Many times we are more worried about the cover but the inside is the most important thing.”
9.
“Moreover, we don’t always know how to take compliments.. Why is it sometimes so difficult just to say thank you for them. I still start by downplaying things that others might admire.. I don´t even notice that but always after this kind of situations I think to myself why did I answer by belittling instead of just saying thank you?!”
10.
“Many times if we succeed we are almost a bit ashamed of it. We say that we achieved something because of others or good luck… But come on, you have done a lot of work, made difficult decisions and sacrifices, why couldn’t you give yourself a big high five for the good job?!”
11.
“I’m nude in all the pictures but the lighting is the main thing. I choose the poses and lighting in a way that I can cover my more intimate parts with shadows or with other parts of my body. I remove my nipples because of Instagram’s community guidelines.”
12.
“I think that downplaying ourselves all the time goes against us. How can someone take us seriously and respect us, if we don´t do it ourself? I also think that it´s important and great that we can say to ourselves that we have received and earned our own success.”
13.
“How I look or don’t look isn’t the point. I wish we wouldn’t need to ask those kind of questions in this world. One reason why I keep this account anonymous is that I don’t want people to just look how the “person” behind the account looks. I want to keep the attention in the message of my account and in the art.”
14.
“One day I decided to just be gentle to my body. Nourish and give it only good things and love. Lot of nutrient rich food, grace and joy… And life became so much easier when I didn’t try anymore to be better and better.”
15.
“We have to be proud of ourselves and be able to say to ourselves that yes, we are good enough and lovely. Because our mind and heart are so much more important than our outlooks.”
16.
“Trying to be without comparing yourself to others is not always so easy but we should remind ourselves everytime that it’s a waste of time.”
17.
“I think we can always do more than what we think. People are actually very tough and adaptable. But in many cases we are also very safe and comfort-loving. The more we challenge ourselves to step out of our comfort zone the more pleasure and feelings of success we can get.”
18.
“If you are scared or nervous about doing it, in most cases it’s going to be worth it.”
19.
“Who we are does not equal with what we own. I believe it’s something much more deeper. Materials trap you and make you selfish. Freedom comes when your happiness and satisfaction doesn’t depend on materialistic things.”
20.
“I hope that some day in the world everything focuses more on our heart and brains because the development of the beauty of them is permanent and deeper.”
Nude Yoga Girl’s account is an inspiration to many and she’s doing an amazing job in promoting body image confidence and positivity in thought.
More power to you, NYG!
