I am sh*t scared of horror movies. Each time Paranormal Activity or even Final Destination comes on TV, I immediately change the channel. The first time I watched The Mummy, I couldn’t sleep for days at a stretch.

And call me a coward as much you will, I know there are people among you too who can’t stand horror films. Lucky for us, though, there are some films we can watch without compromising on our peace of mind, like these 13. They have the perfect amount of spine-crawling element about them without creeping you out downright.

1. Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus is a movie about three witches, who instead of doing wrong to people, get into a horrible mess, but in a really funny way. This movie also sheds light on the troubles an older generation faces while coming to terms with all things modern. Relatable much?

 

2. Stardust

A Neil Gaiman book turned into a movie, Stardust is full of fantasy drama, epic adventures, and black magic. Though it is not outright scary, it has some pretty bone-chilling moments!

 

3. The Addams Family

The extremely strange and incredibly erratic family on the planet, the Addams and how their lives unfold, is a thing to watch for sure. This movie is the perfect combination of bizarre and cryptic.

 

4. Casper

Casper might be a ghost, but you simply can’t help loving him. And though this movie does have its fair share of creepy moments, ultimately it leaves you feeling really good!

 

5. Coraline

A Neil Gaiman book always contains great fodder for your mind, and such a book turned into a movie is simply a visual delight. And yes, despite being deemed as a kids’ movie, this stop-motion picture will make your spine chill at times.

 

6.The Nightmare Before Christmas

This stop-motion animation comes from director Tim Burton and it lives upto all your expectations. The story of Jack Skellington is a fantastic one, and you simply have to watch it.

 

7. Makdee

This is, by far, one of the best ‘horror/thriller’ movies Bollywood has produced. From fabulous acting to a well-written script, this movie will make you believe in what you see… until the very end!

 

8. The Corpse Bride

This stop-motion animation from the master artisan Tim Burton tells the love story of a man and his accidental bride, who is a spirit. And the rest, well you’ll have to see for yourself.

 

9. Edward Scissorhands

The pair of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are known to produce some of the finest movies of the creepy genre, and this one is no different. Though this is not a ghost story, it’s twisted nevertheless, and you’ll love it, no matter what.

 

10. Monster House

This is an actual horror movie, despite having kids as the protagonist. I actually had my heart in my mouth the first time I watched this visually delightful, albeit scary animation movie.

 

11. Beetlejuice

Another masterpiece from Tim Burton, this is the story of a young couple who acquired the ghost status newly, and are looking for a home. This is a classic that you just have to watch!

 

12. Practical Magic

The hottest witches in town, the Owen sisters would render you awed with their magical powers, both while fighting the evil curse and while being a lover.

 

13. Ghost

Patrick Swayze as a lover – yes, please! So what if he is a ghost? This movie is a must-watch if you’re into rom-com movies and also if you are into thriller/ghost movies.
