10 Unique Ways To Give Your Fairy Lights A Makeover This Diwali

Diwali season is on and all the houses are decked up in their full glory to celebrate the festival of lights. When I walk back to home and enter my society, it feels like one of those extravagant sets from a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie. A lot of colourful lights and rangoli everywhere.

I’m pretty sure that even you are planning to decorate your house. So, here are some new and quirky ideas of giving your fairy lights a nice makeover. They are super easy and will look absolutely wonderful.

1. Net Fairy Lights

They are very easy to make and look fantastic. All you have to do is get some tutu fabric (tulle/net) and tie it around those tiny bulbs. And you will have a gorgeous trail of lights ready. For more detailed instructions, look here.

 

2. Egg Carton Fairy Lights

The excess Styrofoam pieces can be cut into the shape of flowers using a pair of scissors. Then, all you have to do is paint them and fit them over the lights. It is going to look awesome. Read the detailed description here.

 

3. Autumn Leaf Fairy Lights

With winter approaching, this is the perfect time to make these lights. Just walk out of your house and you’ll see a lot of dried leaves lying around. Collect the best-looking ones and tape them on your tiny bulbs. It looks breathtaking. See the full instructions here.

 

4. Flower Fairy Lights

This one requires some precision, but it’s not that difficult. All you need is some crepe papers and a pair of scissors. Cut fringes into the paper along the long side, then roll it across a bulb and fix it. Do it again, but this time choose a different colour. 5. Twine Ball Fairy Lights

Soak your twine/wool/thick thread in a mixture of glue and water. Then wrap it around the small balloons and leave them to dry. After few hours, when the twine is rock hard, burst the balloon using a pin and pull it out through one of those tiny spaces. 6. Dixie Cup Fairy Lights

Well, this is a simple one. Just poke holes at the bottom of those tiny cups and insert a bulb in each cup. To make it look fancier, you can use printed cups, paint them, or cover them with fancy paper.

 

7. Lace Hearts Fairy Lights

Another easy trick which looks super cool. Just cut out some hearts (of different sizes) from a think lacy fabric and pierce them with the tiny bulbs. It will make up for a very elegant lighting display.

 

8. Ping Pong Fairy Lights

Just buy a packet of cheap ping pong balls and poke tiny holes in all of them (by making a plus sign with the knife). Now, put one ping pong ball on one bulb and create a whole trail of beautiful round lights.

 

9. Origami Fairy Lights

All you need to do is learn how to make those cute and tiny origami boxes. After you learn how to make them here, just fix one light on one box and make yourself a beautiful string of lights. Use different papers for different boxes to make the whole arrangement look more appealing.

 

10. Cupcake Liner Fairy Lights

The name is pretty self-explanatory. Collect few cupcake liners of different colours and sizes and fix them on tiny bulbs after punching holes in them. To crank it up a notch, you can you 2 cupcake liners for one bulb.
