Nana Patekar Goes Out Of His Way To Support The Farmers, Restoring Our Faith In Humanity

Most Bollywood stars are not known for their social activities. But, there are a few stars who realize the street beggars need to be saved just a week before their movie releases or going on to make claims about donating 80% of their incomes for the betterment of the society. There are hardly any stars who gives their soul to fight for the cause he/she believes in.

Nana Patekar has always proved that he is one of the finest actors in Bollywood with multiple National Awards to his credit. But, he has always stayed out of the limelight and managed to keep a low profile.

Known for raising his voice on a number of issues, Nana Patekar is one of the very few kind and mature actors in Bollywood.

But, at a time when politicians of this country are busy debating on who is more corrupt and who is at fault, Nana Patekar along with Makarand Anaspure came forward and donated Rs 15,000 each to the families of 62 farmers from Vidarbha region who have committed suicide in the past few months.

He handed over cheques to the families in an event which was organised by an NGO, Jan Manch. He has visited 112 widows already in Marathwada Beed and now plans to extend financial assistance to 700 more widows of the farmers.

When asked, why he is meeting the families of the deceased farmers, this is what he had to say:

“Right now, it is of utmost importance. Today, I heard someone committed suicide. If, after 69 years of independence, we can’t provide water and electricity to people, it is ridiculous. Now the BJP has taken over, earlier there was Congress. We need to take these things seriously. I feel it is time for a revolution. If a farmer can kill himself, tomorrow he can kill you. Look at the level of his frustration. Beware, this situation could become dangerous. Their helplessness could turn into rage, they might turn Naxalites. You are creating that kind of a situation. Just give them electricity and water, which is their basic right. Come on, they provide you bread.”

Nana Patekar has always shown us what it takes to be a responsible citizen by quietly practicing what he doesn’t even preach.

It feels great to see someone work for a cause that will help improve the social structure of the country.
