This Brave Constable Heroically Swam And Saved 16 Children From Drowning In Delhi Floods

The Delhi floods brought mayhem to the capital as the rain flooded most of its main roads. And the water levels have only increased to dangerous levels in the low-lying areas.

In one such low-lying area, a school bus broke down in deep waters under a bridge. And because of continuous rains the water flooded the bus threatening to drown all the 70 children inside.

The children started shouting for help and climbed the seats to escape the rising water. One of the teachers made a distress call and a Police Control Room Van responded in just 16 minutes.

 

ASI Chokhe Lal was driving the van with constable Murari Lal assisting him. They saw that the whole bus would go underwater if they waited. Murari Lal didn’t think twice before jumping into the water with his full uniform.

He handed his gun to the inspector and jumped into the water. The inspector did not know how to swim and waited at the edge of the water.

 

Murari Lal swam through the sewage mixed water and reached the bus and consoled each one of them. Then he carried every kid one by one back to safety.

“They were sitting on the rooftop of the bus. One by one, I carried them out on my shoulder”

The inspector went neck-deep into the water and took the kids from Murari Lal and took them to safety on his shoulders.

 

The other traffic cops made a human chain and helped Murari rescue the children One by one they evacuated and saved 16 kids before the fire department truck came to the rescue. In total Murari Lal swam for one and a half hour to rescue all of them.

He even got a severe skin infection from the sewage water.

The Delhi Deputy Commissioner R.K. Bansal said that both the inspector and the constable will be rewarded for showing exceptional bravery.

Murari Lal took swimming lessons when he was growing up in his home state of Rajasthan.
