She Died While Crossing Railway Tracks, And Her Family Donated Her Organs To Save 4 Lives

Life is certainly uncertain. It throws unforeseeable things at you and it catches you off guard like no one else. And in that one moment of doom, you either end up breaking or you stay strong just to make it till the end.

Talking about being strong, this courageous family of a woman who lost her in a heart wrenching accident, decided to donate her organs to save FOUR lives.

Shobha Chavan, a resident of Shivprerna chawl in Mankhurd, Mumbai was crossing a railway track between Sanpada and Vashi on Monday, when she was run over by a train. She survived several injuries and multiple fractures.

She was admitted in a hospital in Vashi, but her conditions kept worsening. She was declared brain-dead on Wednesday. PK Sashanker, administrator of MGM hospital, spoke to HT and expressed how the woman’s family wanted to save other lives, when they couldn’t save Shobha. He said,

“Tukaram Chavan, her husband and close relatives, said they wanted to save other patients, who were on dialysis, had end-stage kidney diseases, had liver ailments and cardiac diseases.”

The hospital respected the family’s wishes and they started the procedure of organ donation without any delay. Shoba’s both kidneys, her heart and liver were donated and it saved four ailing lives.

One of her kidneys was donated to a patient in the same hospital. The other was sent to Jaslok Hospital. Her heart was sent to the Fortis Hospital, while her liver was sent to Wockhardt Hospital.

There are no words for the brave family who in times of losing someone they dearly loved, thought about saving other lives. We hope they find strength to deal with their loss.
