Video of Mulayam Singh’s Bahu Dancing To Padmavati’s ‘Ghoomar’ Has Karni Sena Furious. Again!

The fuss around Padmavati is like the clanging of empty vessels—there’s nothing in it and as we know, empty vessels make a lot of noise. After Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone, the Karni Sena has found a new target in—wait for it—Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law.

In case you’re wondering what, why, how, here goes.

In a video that has surfaced, UP politico Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law, Aparna Yadav, can be seen dancing during a family function on the song Ghoomar, from the controversy-ridden Padmavati.

The video was taken in Lucknow during Aparna’s brother’s engagement celebrations. Dressed in a red lehenga with a few other relatives joining her in the background, Aparna performed a graceful dance to the song that has been another bone of contention for the film’s protesters.

As if on cue, Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi was quick to express his anger over the contempt that Aparna has shown to their cause by dancing on the Padmavati song, despite being a Rajput.

According to IBT, Kalvi said,

“We are fighting for our cause. Being a Rajput she is dancing on such songs without caring for the sentiments of Rajput. We will send the original Ghoomar song and other Rajasthani folk songs if they like it so much.”

UP Information Commissioner and Aparna’s father, Arvind Singh Bisht, defended his daughter’s choice of song to perform to with a reasonable explanation.

He told NDTV,

“We have no interest in any film or any scandal around it. At these private wedding functions, people often dance to folk songs and film songs. That was the spirit in which she danced.”

Now see, here’s how you can simplify this. A section of the society has a problem with the film. However, this does not automatically translate into the entire community rising up in arms against it.

It’s sad that the Karni Sena feels this way, but it’s not true. By dancing on the song, the performers are neither expressing their support for the film nor exhibiting any contempt for Sena’s cause. They just don’t care and are having their fun.

Besides, just as in the case of criminals, so also in the case of Padmavati‘s ‘supposedly hurtful’ content—innocent until proven guilty.
