Teacher Draws Entire MS Word Interface On Blackboard Because School Doesn’t Have Computers

“Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber, and future of an individual.” – A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

School teachers are the ones with the power to shape young minds. And a dedicated teacher has the power to change and better an entire future generation. While most try to make their lessons interesting, there’s one teacher in Africa who keeps it old school with a chalk and blackboard.

It may sound bizarre to many of us, but can you learn how to use the computer without actually working on a system? However, in Sekyedumase Senior High School Ghana this is the reality.

The school has a lack of resources and couldn’t afford a computer laboratory for the kids. However, this wasn’t going to stop them from learning the functioning of technology.

Owura Kwadwo Hottish, the information and communications technology teacher at the school shared pictures of how he taught Microsoft Word by drawing it on a blackboard for the children.

He shared photos of him teaching the students Word however, because there was no projector or computer to actually show the interface, he decided to do the next best thing- draw it!

Talking to Bored Panda about his method of teaching, he said,

“I do it to make my students understand what I’m teaching. At least to give a picture of what they will see assuming they were behind a computer. I do make sure they understand everything well before they leave the class.”

The post he shared instantly went viral and it touched the heartstrings of people all over the world.

The post lead to a lot of discussion in Ghana. While most praised Mr. Kwadwo for going beyond the call of duty and teaching his students in a genius way, some outraged over the post as well.

The discussion was that it is 2018 and schools are still without computers. However, the educator defended the government saying, “The government is helpful and I believe in them, they are trying to make ICT better for the teachers and students. We need well-equipped infrastructures and teaching and learning aids, and a government who has education at its heart.”

He has now received many offers of donations for laptops and projectors which is great news for the kids. Mr. Kwadwo is elated by anything coming in for the students and even wants to help out other schools in the region. He said,

“There are many schools facing this same problem. I can also help out and give some of the donations to them, so they can also benefit through teaching ICT.”

It is with the dedication of teachers like Mr. Kwadwo that children can excel and learn to love these subjects. With sheer determination he has become an inspiration to many in the profession.

Teaching really is a noble profession, don’t you agree?! Kudos Mr. Kwadwo!
