Millionaire’s Son To Be Married In A Communal Wedding Instead Of A Lavish One, With 236 Orphans

Weddings in India are always a lavish affair. People get a chance to show off their wealth, throw around their status, and flash their expensive and branded clothes. But every once a while, someone with a lot of wealth walks in and sets an example on how to best make use of it, and shuts everyone up.

Meet Mahesh Swani, a millionaire business tycoon from Surat, Gujarat, who has vowed to not throw a lavish wedding for his son, but to get him married at a communal wedding, where he will also arrange for the weddings fo 236 other orphan girls.

On Christmas day this year, Mahesh’s son and nephew will be getting married with the orphan girls in a vastly arranged communal wedding. Mahesh has been organising communal weddings like this one since three years, and he plans to become the adoptive father of 1,001 orphan girls.

Mahesh had helped the daughters of Ishwar Swani, a friend from Mahesh’s community, get married, after he passed away and his family were facing financial troubles.

It was this event which gave him the inspiration for arranging communal weddings. Up until 2012, Mahesh only performed Kanyadaan for orphan girls, but he planned it to take it a notch further and organise their weddings also. Mahesh says that if he’s got the money, he’d rather marry off 1,001 orphan girls, then spend all of it in two weddings.

We need more people like Mahesh in our country.

More power to you, Mr. Swani!
