If you have been living under a rock, Manushi Chhillar from India has been crowned as the Miss World 2017 and praises have been pouring from all corners. In fact, apart from her bewitching beauty, it is her indomitable spirit that has helped her win the sash and gown.
That and her righteous self that made her stand out amongst other finalists and answer the finale question, the way she did. On being asked which profession deserves the highest salary according to her, Manushi couched the job of being a mother that demands sacrifices and a lot of patience.
And suddenly, along with the sparkling gown, Manushi won millions of hearts of people who were already beaming with pride (including yours truly). But amidst the sea of applauds, there was a pun point that raised a lot of eyebrows.
ICYMI, I’m talking about Shashi Tharoor and his ‘creative’ dig at BJP which he took by cracking a pun on Manushi. He tweeted,Â
What a mistake to demonetise our currency! BJP should have realised that Indian cash dominates the globe: look, even our Chhillar has become Miss World!
— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) November 19, 2017
Yes, the internet wasn’t very happy.
But Vineet Jain, Managing Director, Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd., who has supported Manushi since she won Miss India and even before came out in the open and said,Â
I saw @ShashiTharoor tweet regarding @ManushiChhillar . I wasn’t offended even though she is a times girl. We need to learn to be more TOLERANT towards light hearted HUMOUR. #MissWorld2017 #MissIndia

In fact, Manushi has now replied and seconded Jain in a tweet. But they’re an interesting choice of words, if I may add! She wrote,Â
Exactly @vineetjaintimes agree with you on this. A girl who has just won the World isn’t going to be upset over a tongue-in-cheek remark. ‘Chillar’ talk is just small change – let’s not forget the ‘chill’ within Chhillar 🙂 @ShashiTharoor https://t.co/L5gqMf8hfi

I don’t know about you but I’m fighting a strong urge to crown Manushi again, TBH! Can I get a hurrah for the girl, Y’all?
