Words uttered from one’s mouth are like arrows shot from a bow; there’s no taking them back once they’re out. If that’s the case, then Goa CM Manohar Parrikar’s words, quite specifically the ones that stated he’s worried about girls who’ve started drinking beer these days, are arrows that have hit a beehive. And you know what happens when you disturb a beehive right? You’ve gotta be ready for the sting! And since we’re all about Digital India, this particular sting’s got its very own hashtag too: #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer
It all started when a journalist, aiming to start a movement akin to #MeToo, tweeted a ‘nice’ little letter to Mr. Parrikar.
To Sir, With Love.
Cheers from Goa, Mr Parrikar! #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer
C’mon good ladies, let’s make this weekend worth it. Use the hashtag and share your beer 🍻 pics on my timeline.
The one with the best pic, your beer is on me. pic.twitter.com/6AX3jejIIV— I Am A Nishtha Gautam (@TedhiLakeer) February 10, 2018
Women and girls, celebrities and regular folk, boys and even men alike contributed to this hashtag in a show of solidarity!
Now tell me, how could Twitter resist this promising invite ha? Project #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer was full steam ahead!
1. Oh yes, break it to him gently, please!
Should we tell him about the whiskey gently…? https://t.co/jWWwsyokr6

2. Many women shared pictures of themselves enjoying a cold one, or some other alcoholic drink, with their own ‘sweet’ message for the worried Goa CM.
Cheers to the spiritually guided!

Excellent advice, if I may say so!
And why stop at beer, dear ladies? Drink it all! Cheers!! #girlswhodrink #girlswhodrinkbeer pic.twitter.com/cLPFYCpw06

All those uncles!
At an Indian Wedding Party
Uncle (host) to the girlfriends of his daughter (whose wedding it is) – "Beta, kya lengi aaplog?" (Pointing to the bar)
Girls – "Ek beer, uncle."
Uncle (with disdain) – "Breezer le lo! Kaisa lagega sabhi k saamne ladkiyan piye?" #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer pic.twitter.com/lv7yHrkUgC— Shuchi Prasad Writer (@shuchiprasadink) February 10, 2018
2. Amongst them was a poet, and here’s how I know it!
I’ve begun to fear
Now that girls are drinking beer
It will get much more risky
When they move on to whisky
Things were just fine
While it was still wine
And cost but a penny
To have some cashew feni https://t.co/JdZbLgypLC— Irshad Daftari (@daftari) February 10, 2018
3. Hawwwww!
Scared Manohar Parrikar will have nightmare for months if he gets to know that women watch porn, smoke cigarettes, give gaalis, understand and share all double-meaning jokes.#GirlsWhoDrinkBeer 🍺🍺🍺

4. Some women even shared pictures of them drinking beer with their dads!
Hey Mr. Parrikar, dad’s not looking ‘worried’ now, is he?

And then, there was this father…!
No pictures though, on my daughters birthday, I took her to Gadda Da Vida, Novotel, Mumbai, & offered her Bira Beer. Pointless to say, we drank together! #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer pic.twitter.com/0rK2FZTpil

5. A couple of ladies managed a nice dig at not just Parrikar’s remark but also the whole Renuka Chowdhury—PM Modi Ramayana war!

7. The best thing was when teetotalers joined in and supported the cause!
I don't drink alcohol by choice…but still want to support #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer … so cheers!!! pic.twitter.com/XHPToZl135

Just chill no? With a beer, perhaps!
I don’t drink, but totally in support of #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer. Seriously, dear people, stop imposing your views, rather, try to broaden them a little. If I don’t drink, it is my choice, and those who do, it is theirs. Make peace with it. Go get em girls! 🍻 pic.twitter.com/kgvPRi6kg7

8. Apparently, while women were saying #MeToo to drinking beer, #NotAllMen were as worried as CM Manhoar Parrikar. In fact, they were in full support!
Aisa kya?
#GirlsWhoDrinkBeer don’t drink their other half’s blood

Whiskey lovers, assemble!

Touché, Vishal Dadlani! Hitting the right notes!
Hey @manoharparrikar. I know women who drink beer, wine, vodka & whiskey & some smoke pot too. They're all smart, self-sufficient, strong women who don't need your approval. That said, even when totally wasted, they make more sense than you do. #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer #GuysWhoTalkShit

9. Just author Devdutt Pattanaik, giving a cool history lesson to everyone with issues!

*mic drop*
I suppose this then must be true!

As a girl who drinks beer herself, and wine, and a lot of other spirits, I would like to ask this:
#GirlsWhoDrinkBeer might be a little tipsy and say something nonsensical. What’s our politicians’ excuse?
