Mangaluru MLA Ruins A ₹1.65 Cr Car By Filling It With Diesel Instead Of Petrol. OUCH!

Before getting to the story, it is important that I tell you guys a little about automotive fuel. I promise that I’ll make this short and simple, so please bear with me.

While a vehicle can be made to run using different kinds of fuels by altering the engine, most Indian cars use either Petrol, Diesel or CNG as a fuel. Thanks to modern technology, hybrid cars have entered the Indian market which can run using different fuels, such as ‘Petrol and electricity’ or ‘Petrol and CNG’.

Now, ‘hybrid’ doesn’t mean that you can use Petrol instead of Diesel or vice-versa. It is very important that only the right fuel gets inside the vehicle, otherwise, its internal components may get damaged beyond repair.

Okay, now to the story.

Mohiuddin Bava, Congress MLA from Mangaluru City (North) constituency, recently became the proud owner of India’s first ‘Volvo XC 90 T9 Excellence’ hybrid car when he purchased the vehicle on Saturday, 25th March.

The luxury car was recently launched in the Indian market and is priced at ₹1.65 Crore and can run using both Petrol and electricity.

Purchasing a Volvo, Bava would’ve thought that he had made a long-term investment. Unfortunately, the expensive car got stalled at a petrol pump on Monday, just two days after it was bought because a pump operator filled Diesel instead of Petrol in its fuel tank.

According to Bava, his son asked the operator specifically to fill Petrol in it, but the operator made the mistake.

Reacting to the incident in a pleasant manner, Bawa said that it is human nature to make mistakes.

“The staff has accepted the mistake and apologised for the same. The dealers concerned have been informed and it will be rectified. As the saying goes ‘to err is to human’, it is common to make mistakes and we respect humans more than machines.”

The car will now be taken to Bengaluru by a truck where its fuel tank will be cleaned and the injection system will be repaired.

As Diesel requires a lesser temperature to burn than Petrol, even a few droplets can extensively harm the entire injection system and engine of the vehicle.

So, it seems like Mr Bava will have to shell out a little more money to get the car on the road again. For everyone else, make sure your vehicle gets the right fuel inside the tank.
