BJP Leader Arrested For Rape After Video Of Him Forcibly Kissing A 19 YO Girl Goes Viral

There is hardly any day that goes by without the cacophony of shameful, disgraceful crimes. Everyday, we come across cases that make us loose hope in a better tomorrow. And when I really feel like being an optimist on days, I come across this.

48-year-old Ravindra Bawanthade, who is a BJP worker and a school teacher was held by the Maharashtra police on Tuesday. It was after a clip of him forcibly kissing a girl on a bus went viral. The 19-year-old girl was his former student.

The horrific incident took place in a luxury bus, which was on its way back from Nagpur to Gadchiroli on June 27. The complainant was lured into coming to Nagpur as Ravindra had promised her a job in the city. The cleaners and the driver of the bus videotaped the incident.

 

After the video went viral and the girl came across it, she filed an FIR alleging rape. The two cleaners and the driver of the bus were also arrested under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act for recording the video and circulating it on the web.

The bus also had a CCTV camera that was able to capture Ravindra and the complainant.

The woman was from a weaker economic status and Ravindra, who is her teacher considered it appropriate to molest her. The woman has also said in the FIR that this is the second time he forced himself upon her. He also promised marriage to her in spite of being a married man. 

The 19-year-old is going through an ordeal that gives me goosebumps to even speak of. While the perpetrator has been arrested and is under judicial custody till July 6, we can only hope that Ravindra Bawanthade gets what he truly deserves.
