Tired Of ‘Shaadi Kab Kar Rahe Ho?’ Queries, Man Gets A Photoshoot Done – With Himself!

Indian culture is beautiful, there is no doubt about that. The diversity and unity we see are reflected in our culture too. That’s one of the reasons why we see a lot of similarities between the various cultures that co-exist here. But the one thing that is constant across all cultures and religions in India is the institution of marriage.

We believe that there is an appropriate age for both men and women to get married. It becomes more like a social obligation than a personal commitment. And by some act of rebel, if someone decides to NOT marry at the age deemed ‘appropriate’ by the society, then God save them from all the questions and judgmental remarks in every family gathering.

That’s exactly what Nikhil Malik, a 28-year-old, was going through at every social get-together. He decided to shut them up with a photoshoot announcing he had found ‘The One’ – his own self.

Funny Wednesday! Haha, so I shot something super funny ( VERY DIFFERENT from the work I usually do) with my childhood friend Nikhil a while back . He called me up randomly one day saying, " Getting older and with Indian relatives asking you if you're with someone, when are you getting married is just exhausting. So why not tell them yes, I am with someone who I totally adore and want to spend the rest of my life with?" We ended up brainstorming and came up with this fun impromtu shoot to basically shut every Indian relatives mouth by saying that you don't need to be with someone to make yourself happy , you are enough! . . . #lol #coupleshoot #funny #bhumikab #explore #gurgaon #single #exploremore #couplegoals #selflove #loveyourself #loveyourselffirst

He was constantly nagged by gossip aunties at social meets asking him “Beta, tum kab shaadi kar rahe ho?” He got in touch with his photographer friend, Bhumika Bhatia, to discuss ideas and within a matter of time, they had one.

They scheduled the shoot for next day and two hours later, voila! He had a flight to catch and she had another photo-shoot scheduled. But that didn’t stop them from coming up with this novel and necessary result.

The purpose of the shoot was simple. To shut down every uncle and aunty who badgered the youth with the question. This photoshoot is quite different from what Bhumika usually does. She said,

“We ended up brainstorming and came up with this fun shoot to basically shut every Indian relatives’ mouth by saying that you don’t need to be with someone to make yourself happy, you are enough!

To all the singles out there on Valentine’s day, no need to stress, when you have yourself. 🙂
Let me know what you think!? Would be great if it could reach out the youth that’s frustrated by this question!”

The result of the photoshoot is funny but as long as it gets the point across to the audience, it’s important. See for yourself.

1. Save the date – for yourself.

2. “Everyone has two sides. Mine is:”

3. Never need someone else’s company to eat, you’re enough for yourself.

4. This year, say yes to yourself.

5. Gifting heart-shaped balloons may be cheesy, but buying them for yourself is not.

Marriage is an important institution and if it really has to last a lifetime, I think it’s fair that the person takes time to find the one they really want to spend their lives with. And if they think they are their own best partner, that is fair too.

Kudos to Nikhil and Bhumika for coming up with this hilarious way to get an important message across. So the next time an uncle or an aunt asks when are you getting married, you know what to do.
